Start with the basics: a high-resolution 14MP CCD sensor and sharp 5x wide-angle 28-140mm (equivalent in 35mm format) optical zoom lens. With a 28mm point of view, you can shoot landscapes, buildings or groups of friends. At 140mm, the telephoto view is great for portraits, sports, wildlife or anything that's not quite close enough to you. With the 1280 x 720p HD video, you'll start shooting gorgeous mini-movies with sound that really capture the scene, and play it back on the bright 2.7" LCD monitor screen (it's also great for looking at your photos). The Optio S1 is perfect for pictures of friends and family--it has a fast Face Detection function that recognizes faces you shoot often and optimizes the settings for those important people. Smile Capture mode takes the picture when it sees a smile on the face you're photographing, and Blink Detection warns you if the person's eyes are closed in the photo. And you can even take pictures using infrared remote control, using an optional infrared remote controller.
