The Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar for Sony NEX Lens Adapters fits around a Novoflex lens adapter for Sony NEX cameras, in order to provide support for a heavy lens & adapter as they're attached to a relatively tiny Sony NEX series camera body. Novoflex offers a variety of lens adapters for the mirrorless NEX series cameras, for Pentax, Canon, Leica, T2-mount, and many more lens types.

The tripod collar features both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads for attaching to a tripod head, and the Arca-compatible bottom allows the collar to be clamped securely by most Arca-Swiss-compatible quick-release mechanisms.

The collar features a textured knob for tightening the ring around the lens adapter. To execute quick changes between horizontal and vertical orientation, just loosen the knob and rotate the NEX adapter & camera body – the adapter is able to turn a full 360° within the collar.

ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar for Sony NEX Lens Adapters is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from essential for tripod I am using a Leica R tele lens (Apo 180mm f3.4) on my Nex7 using a Novoflex adapter. This combo gives me great resolution but (except for full sun) a tripod or mono pod is required to take advantage of the optical quality. The tripod mount on the camera works only with small and light lenses but otherwise is useless as it flexes too much. This tripod mount is attached on the the lens adapter and allows to rotate the camera. It very well made and has 1/4 & 3/8 thread and arcs swiss size dovetail plate in 2 directions. I only wish the clamp nut would be on the other side that there is more space at the camera grip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality & does it's job perfectly Works perfectly with the Sony 90mm G OSS macro and the a6000 body. The thinner ring is required for that lens though due to the thicker throat of the Sony 90mm macro. Balances perfectly on a flat surface or tripod after it's installed. Only complaint is the long screw can get in the way of the lens lock button & grip depending on hand size. That's an easy fix simply by unscrewing the collar from the base plate and installing it backwards if the long screw gets in your way. All in all it's a quality product that does it's job properly. Holds my lens & a6000 body with zero wobble on a flat surface or tripod

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with Sony 90mm and 70-300mm Although the new Sony 70-300mm lens balances acceptably (if not perfectly) on a tripod when mounted on my Sony A7RII full-frame body, it is pretty much a no go situation with the smaller a6000. Yes, the most obvious use of this lens on the APS-C body is hand-held following action such as BIF, but I occasionally want to lock the combination on a tripod to capitalize on the 450mm effective focal length the lens offers on the crop frame body. On my lightweight tripod (small Benro with Demon DB-46 ballhead) it is impossible to lock on a composition since the long lens causes the whole thing to sag after I locked the ball. Another issue is the lack of clearance between the lens body and the locking knob of my Arca-Swiss clamps. The only way that works with the smaller body is to turn the locking knob back toward me, creating sub-optimal ergonomics. Enter the Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar. It appears to be the answer to these problems. It looks good, exhibiting typical Novoflex quality. As I worked my way through putting it to use, I discovered a shortcoming or two. Step one was to remove the installed plastic shim and replace it with a thinner one supplied with the adapter. Now it fit the throat of the 70-300mm as well as the 90mm macro lens. Step two was to unbolt the clamp part from the foot part, reverse the clamp and reattach. This puts the long screw that does the clamping on the side where it's not in the way. So far, so good. I immediately notice one small issue; on the 70-300mm the collar is clamping on the white alignment dot rather than on the smooth throat of the lens. This is not a problem with the 90mm, which has a longer throat before the lens diameter increases. I find that by carefully aligning the plastic shim so the gap matches the gap in the metal clamping ring, I can put the dot in a spot where it does not get squeezed. This happens to be the ideal place for it anyway. (Next step will be to file the ends of the shim so there's plenty of room for the dot.) I thought all was well until testing revealed that neither of my Arca-Swiss clamps wanted to secure the foot of this adapter. Sigh! OK, the cheap Chinese ballhead clamp would just secure the foot in one orientation but not the other (the foot is bidirectional). Unfortunately, the Really Right Stuff CPL-1 clamp on my RRS BH-55 head just won't clamp the adapter's foot. I guess that this proves that the Arca-Swiss standard is less standard than one might hope, the Novoflex foot being smaller than any other of the many I own. The solution was to use the tripod socket in the foot to add a second plate to solve the fit problem. It happens that I had an old RRS generic plate with a raised end to prevent twisting. Though a bit inelegant, I now have a functioning support for my two larger Sony lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Accessory for Novoflex Adapters I bought this as a add-on for my Novoflex adapters. Simply put it definitely is highly recommended for shooting with longer lenses or off tripod. The foot allows you to attach any standard threaded QR plate and the attachment screw is easy to operate with or without gloves on. One tip I can recommend is to reverse the way it screws in so it operates from the top and doesn't obstruct the lens release button on the body.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works, but... I have a RRS clamp, and the Novoflex, though ARCA, does not fit in the clamp. The Novoflex is too narrow, so that it slides easily out of the clamp, when it is not supposed to. It is my understanding that this is an issue with the specific pair (Novoflex ASTAT and RRS clamp). I ended up using a generic ARCA plate to connect the ASTAT, and having the generic plate onto the clamp. Also, one needs to be patient and careful when attaching the Novoflex to the lens adapter... The product itself is well made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Works well on Sony 90mm Macro and 70-300 zoom. The set screw securing the collar could be redesigned to be in a less disruptive location. Found that if reverse the collar it locates the set screw to a better location.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice but issues with the Arca-compatible mount I am using this collar on my Sony a6300 with the Sony FE 70-300 lens. It fits the lens just fine using the thin shim provided (just rotate it so the gap fits at the white dot marker). I just didn't like hanging the whole combo off the body mount - with the collar the setup is much more balanced. I did swap the collar so the blue locking bolt is on the left side of the camera as suggested in some of the other reviews. Knocked of one star because the supposedly arca compatible mount is quite undersized and would not fit either my Acratech ball head nor my Induro monopod head mount. Fixed this by adding a screw-in lens plate since the Novoflex is tapped for both 1/4 and 3/8 screws. Apparently this is a know issue with Novoflex as noted on the Really Right Stuff website re arca compatibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique advantage of Novoflex system This device allows you to mount an adapted lens to the tripod without using the rather weak NEX tripod socket, placing the tripod closer to the center of gravity of the camera+lens. Some cheap adapters have tripod mounts, but they do not rotate, and some are weakly attached with skinny scews. The Novoflex mount rotates to any orientation and fits all their adapters, so if you have more than one adapter, you only need one mount. It can be easily removed when you don't need it, unlike tripod mounts on other adapters. It has an integral Arca-Swiss foot which fits both longitudinal and sideways clamps, so you don't need to buy an A-S plate, saving money and weight. A rotating mount allows you to keep the camera over the center of the tripod without flopping it off to the side for verticals; until I got this gadget, I only had that advantage with some long tele lenses which come with tripod mounts. I have a couple of Novoflex adapters, and their quality is superb. They fit the NEX camera smoothly with no play, unlike even the Sony lenses, which have some play when mounted on the camera. If you have high-quality lenses like Leica, Zeiss, or pro-grade Nikon, Canon, etc., you really should consider the Novoflex system.
