The Sony HXR-MC50P HD PAL Camcorder is a compact AVCHD camcorder, used in recording high-quality HD videos. It features a wide-angle lens, Exmor R, external microphone, optical SteadyShot with active mode, manual dial, and DVDirect / direct copy.
Complementing the advanced image sensor and image processing technology in the camcorder, the lens offers a focal length as wide as 29.8 mm in video mode (35 mm equivalent). With a six-blade iris diaphragm that is nearly circular to ensure beautiful background blur, the lens allows reproduction of fine details and high color fidelity by using aspheric lenses and ED glass elements. It allows a dramatic wide-angle shoot with a 0.75x wide-angle conversion lens to offer a focal length of up to 22.4 mm in video mode.
The Exmor R incorporates back illuminated technology, which produces high-quality images even in low-light conditions. With metal wiring beneath the photo diode, it increases the sensitivity in comparison to conventional CMOS sensors enabling efficient incident light utilization. It allows quick focusing with an auto focus mode even in low-light conditions and record HD videos in dimly-lit indoor and outdoor night scenes.
Using a highly directive microphone, the HXR-MC50P allows users to acquire high-quality sound while recording and the external microphone is mounted on the camcorder using a dedicated holder. Ensuring a smooth movie footage with optical SteadyShot in active mode, the recorder uses 3-way shake-canceling that adds electronic roll stability. Reducing camera shake even while zooming, it incorporates a latest version of image stabilization technology that ensures image stability up to 10x.
Allowing full advantage of the six-blade iris in the lens, the manual dial allows extracting a highly desired out-of-focus effect in the foreground or background. The dial allows users to manually adjust key shooting parameters that include focus, white balance, exposure, AE shift, and iris / shutter speed priority.
When connected to an optional DVDirect Express DVD writer via USB cable, the camcorder allows burning of DVDs all at the touch of a button. It incorporates a down-convert function for storing videos in standard picture quality and allows playback of DVDs when the camcorder is connected. In addition, it allows you to store video data onto an external HDD without the use of a PC using direct copy.
