Rolls MX310 Overview

The Rolls MX310 MorMics 3-Channel Mic Mixer/Combiner is designed to add up to 3 mics to a single microphone input. The unit has a durable metal chassis with 3 x XLR mono mic inputs. Each input has its own level control, switchable phantom power, and a low-cut filter. These are selectable by means of DIP switches mounted on the side. There is also a mic/line switchable XLR output for connection to a variety of devices.

In addition to its XLR I/O, the mixer features a 3.5mm stereo aux input, allowing you to connect a CD player, MP3 player, AM/FM tuner, and more. A 3.5mm stereo output provides convenient monitoring via headphones, compact speakers, etc. The mixer has bottom mounts for permanent installations, and the required power supply is included for operation.

First I have to say that I am not one to sit here and type reviews unless......the product deserves recognition and this one does. I have been working in the sound reinforcement business for almost 1/4 of a century and I have used this mixer a number of times. When I need a small mixer I search to see if anything new is available and I resort to this model. For the price, size, inputs and operation this mixer can't be beat. The mic inputs are very quiet for a mixer under $100 an the availability to have line or mic level balanced output is a huge plus. Mic or aux option for input 3 is another plus as well as phantom power and low cut. Oh! BTW.....its hand made in Salt Lake City, Utah. Thank You ROLLS for making a great little mixer.

would not work as advertised

This unit would not do what it was advertised to do. It said it would power a phantom powered microphone and it would not do it. The mic was rated to run with 9 to 48 volts and the mixer would not work it, so I returned it. I went with another brand after trying 3 products from this company and none of them would work.

I am not aware of an option to provide this with USB power. This comes with a power supply for use with wall plugin power only.

If I input a 3.5mm mic will that get phantom power, and if so, how much, or is it just through the XLR connections?

Phantom power is provided through an XLR connection only. Mics that require power with a 3.5mm jack usually require plug in power which is approximately 2 - 5 volts. The MX310 is not able to provide this power.

2 Qs: 1) Does this add any coloration to the ...

2 Qs: 1) Does this add any coloration to the signal; 2) will this work passively while it is powered down? One of the mics I'd be running through it is a Warm WA 47, which doesn't need the phantom power. I want to be sure that I can either go through the powered-up Rolls without it affecting the signal, or turn the Rolls off and just pass through it in passive mode. Sorry for the complicated and poorly phrased question!

The Rolls MX310 MorMics 3-Channel Mic Mixer/Combiner requires a power supply to function and is not passive. It does not specify any features that would color the signal specifically, however most electronic circuitry will typically influence the audio signal in some manner, typically minimally.
