The Toughbook 31 features a stunning 13.1" LCD touchscreen with XGA resolution and stylus support. The vivid display supports Intel graphics, which makes it great for watching videos and surfing the web. The display also features Panasonic's CircuLumin technology, which has adjustable brightness between 2 and 1100 nit for use in intense sunlight. Designed for use in the field, the Toughbook 31 uses a special lightweight battery that provides up to seven hours of operation between charges. Plus, the battery requires only around three hours to fully charge.
With a sunlight-viewable LCD and lightweight battery, the Toughbook 31 is equipped for total wireless connectivity and ultra-portability. It features Atheros 802.11 b/g/n WiFi capability for connecting to the Internet from a wireless network or WiFi hot-spot. It also supports Bluetooth V 2.1 + EDR technology, which affords wireless connection between the notebook and Bluetooth-enabled devices including tactile keyboards and mice. For added versatility, the Toughbook features an Ethernet terminal, multiple USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port, and even an HDMI terminal for viewing uncompressed video content on an HDTV. The other ports and terminals provide LAN connection, as well as multiple interface options for device and storage connectivity.
The Toughbook 31 affords enhanced security as well. It has a Kensington Lock Slot and features password security for its software and operating system. Panasonic also provides Computrace theft protection agent in BIOS, as well as optional, separately sold fingerprint and SmartCard readers.
