    Vixen Optics 50 reviews

    Space Eye 50 50mm f/12 Alt-Az Refractor Telescope is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality first telescope for 9 year old I would give this five stars were I basing it on value for dollar - it is a great little first telescope, much better than the toys available elsewhere at this price. This is not a toy! It's a fully functional, inexpensive scientific instrument. Set up was easy, following the included instructions, the finder scope works great, the parts are very well packaged, and obviously, the most important feature is the images through the telescope are sharp and clear. The two included eyepieces look like they are surprisingly high quality. The horizontal and vertical fine tuning knobs are very helpful and work well. Negatives: at this price point, I cannot complain, but potential buyers should know that there are many, fragile-looking lightweight plastic parts, and the tripod is not as easy or as smooth to extend as I would like. I highly recommend this telescope for first-time users, and I would buy it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Space Eye is a Real Performer The telescope is designed for use in the night sky, and that is how we have been using it. To date we have logged over 25 objects, including bright clusters, planetary nebula, double stars and globular clusters. The tripod mount is sturdy, as is the alt-azimuth mount. Slow motion controls work great, and focussing is easy. My only real complaint is the finder scope--it would be even better if it came with a red dot version instead of the little toy 5x20. The two inlcuded eyepieces are well chosen and of good quality, giving 30x and 60x. My wife and I are avid amateur astronomers, so we are using this scope with years and years of experience with telescopes, charts, and the night sky. We are using it for a special project honouring William T Olcott, and are using his Field Guide to the Stars as our exclusive guide. Star images are sharp, clusters are well-defined and we are very impressed so far. We have not yet used it on the moon or planets, something for which it will be particularly useful. Probably not a good beginner scope, as there is a big learning curve in astronomy. Learning to use the Space Eye will take a lot of time if you have never done serious observing before. Our other scopes are 6 and 12 Dobs, so this one is a fun scope. It reminds me of my early days in astronomy as a child. Well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great starter scope We bought this for our 8 year old son. Used it to see the blood moon last week. The image was sharp and easy to focus. I liked best the slow motion controls that made it easy to follow the moon as it moved. Another more advanced astronomer helped us find Saturn that night and we could see the rings and one of it's moons. Very cool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value This is only a two-inch refractor, but it gives clear views of Jupiter and Saturn; clearly saw the four Galilean moons of the former and the rings of the latter. Quality vixen product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected! I thought this would be the perfect starter Telescope for my 6 year old but we were wrong. The horizontal mount was defective. There was no way myself or a 6 year old could tighten or loosen this mount. If I put to much pressure on the mount it would break. I had to return this item. We were very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Telescope for granddaughter I bought the telescope as a bat mitzvah gift to my granddaughter. We went together into an open field and watched the stars. My granddaughter was very enthusiastic and learned to recognize stars in the sky. We returned home satisfied
