  • 1Description

Spanning a versatile range of wide-angle focal lengths, the Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4-5.6 Lens from Olympus is a flexible 18-36mm equivalent zoom designed for Four Thirds DSLR cameras. Its optical design incorporates one ED Glass-Mold Aspherical element to noticeably reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, while one Dual Super Aspherical Element and one aspherical element are also featured to further correct spherical aberrations and reduce the overall size and weight of the lens. Additionally, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm is also integrated into the design to contribute to a smooth bokeh quality.

Versatile wide-angle zoom, this 9-18mm lens is designed for Four Thirds DSLR cameras and provides an 18-36mm equivalent focal length range.
One ED Glass-Mold Aspherical element is featured at the rear of the optical design to reduce both chromatic and spherical aberrations, and color fringing, for improved clarity and color accuracy.
One Dual Super Spherical (DSA) element and one aspherical element are integrated at the front of the optical design to control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness. These elements also help to reduce the overall size and weight of the lens.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.

    Olympus 261058B reviews

Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4-5.6 Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another awesome Zuiko product I bought this lens to enable me to capture family portraits in confined rooms and wider vistas outside. The 12 - 60 does a great job but is not quiet wide enough for some areas. I entertained the thought of the 7 - 14mm but could not justify that cost, the 9 was my compromise. I searched the planet for a reasonable cost and B & H prices were the best - Again - I love this lens for what it does and is intended to do, take sharp, crisp, wide angle shots with minimal distortion ( used within it's operational design and capabilities) I definitly recommend this lens to add versitility to your System and photography skills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dollars Spent = GREAT VALUE Another great optic by Olympus for not so much money! This lens performs better than what one would expect for the amount of money spent. Though I paid only about 15% less than list price of $ it is a bargain for such fine optics. I use this lens for primarily landscape shots and the depth of field is fantastic. Without stopping down to f22 you can get everything from foreground to background sharp. I have found almost no vignetting with great edge sharpness. About the only thing I would have liked would have been a bit faster lens but then again, price dictates what a manufacturer will offer at any price point. Would I recommend this lens? With 5 stars!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super compact wide angle lens this lens works extremely well with olympus E-620. It is very light and compact, a four thirds advantage over other mainstream lenses. Autofocus is very responsive. It has a quality feel even for a standard grade lens. Picture quality is very detailed and sharp. I am glad I purchased this lens, it has a much wider field than the standard kit 14-42 lens. I have taken several landscape shots in just the first week of owning it, all with fantastic results. I hope olympus will continue making four thirds lenses, and bring back some more mid and entry level dslr's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost bought the 7-14mm, but got this Very glad I opted to get the 9-18mm. I already owned the legendary 11-22mm lens, and decided to get this one as well. Very well corrected distortion. Little chromatic aberration, and quite sharp in the corners. Keep it around f/5.6 for sharpest output. Gets softer at smaller apertures. Very portable and light and takes filters, which is why I didn't get the 7-14mm. Great value for the money. I will use this one for interiors and panoramas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for It's Wide Field & Price It is certainly not of the quality of Olympus' Super-High Grade & High Grade lenses, w/ enviromental sealing. But for the price, and considering it carries the equivalent of 18-36mm for 35mm film format... it does the job. It would have been enjoyable to have been able to justify the purchase of Olympus' 7-14mm, Super-High Grade lens (at 3x the price). As it is, this lens, works as expected, with good edge-to-edge sharpness & low chromatic aberration. Unless you need a super wide-angle with environmental sealing, this might be a good substitute, as it carries Olympus 4/3rds matching technology. There may be Sigma/Tamron lenses that will work better for you. I am quite happy the product quality & results, using an E-3 body.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super wide angle 9 -18mm f/4 -5.6 lens This wide angle 9-18mm Zuiko lens works really well attached to my Olympus E30 and E5. Impressed with the fast and accurate focus. Avisable to always use a uv protector filter as dirt easily lodges at the circumference of the front edge of lens. Well worth the purchase for the price! Easy to mount, very lightweight. Produces sharp images at f8 consistantly. I purchased this 9-18mm lens to compliment my 12-60mm swd lens when an extra wide angle shot was required .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect wide angle This is perfect for anyone who wishes to capture a full scene without the distortion associated with a fish-eye lens. Your corners will remain undistorted (if you line up with the horizon), unlike the fish-eye lens, allowing you to capture much more than a standard 18mm lens. For instance, I use my fish-eye lens for capturing entire beach scenes, from horizon-to-horizon, or something like the expanse of the Grand Canyon. I used the super wide angle for photographing everyone at the table during Rosh Hashanah dinner and for my son standing in front of the elephant enclosure at the zoo. I was able to get everything in the background, as well as the main subjects in the periphery, all in focus, by adjusting the aperture like I would for any lens. I am one who immediately puts new equipment through the rigors to learn its value and limitations, and, after several weeks, I haven't found anything wrong with this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ultra-wide for the rest of us I bought this lens for landscape photography mainly because I couldn't justify the cost of the 7-14 mm lens. It's not as wide as I would have liked, but it has the advantage of being able to take filters (in my case, variable density grey-scale). There's some slight vignetting in the very corners at 9 mm, but after that it's fine.
