question
Will this shotgun mic work outdoors for wildlife and birds chirping long distances away?
Shotgun mics by design are generally used to capture audio up to roughly 6 feet away. The closer, the better the audio. While sound outside of that can still be captured, it will not be as detailed due to proximity effect. In order to capture audio (example 50 feet away) you would need a parabolic dish such as this one JOJSPM . The shotgun mic is pointed toward the dish and that allows it to capture audio from further distances.
