Vello HSA-PSC overview

  • 1Description

Vello's Hot Shoe Adapter with PC Socket + Top Shoe allows you to add a PC connection to any Canon camera that does not come with a built-in PC sync connection, while still retaining the existing hot shoe functionality. The top hot shoe supports full E-TTL & E-TTL II metering when used with Canon TTL compatible components.

Note: This adapter does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for use with flash units that have a trigger voltage of more than 6V.
The PC connector can only be used as an output to trigger other off-camera devices. It can not be used to trigger a flash mounted to a shoe positioned off-camera.

Hot Shoe Adapter with PC Socket + Top Shoe - for Canon (E-TTL & E-TTL II) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult to use This adapter fits onto the hot shoe of your camera and allows you to connect to studio strobes. The instructor of my studio photography class recommended this item as my Canon DSLR does not have a built in sync cord connection. Attaching this to the camera was easy, getting the sync cord attached was extremely difficult and every 10th picture or so would not flash. So not only do you miss a shot you have to stop what you are doing, fiddle with the connection and test fire the camera again. This does not get a recommendation from me and Canon should be included in that they do not have a sync cord connection on a 700 dollar camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I needed a means to connect triggers via PC Synch. Hotshoes with PC are easy enough to find, but only with the center pin in the hotshoe (allowing you to pop a flash in the hotshoe, but only in manual flash mode with no other communication to camera). I wanted to retain communication with the on-camera flash while adding the pc synch for a trigger. This adapter does that. It is plastic but has a metal hotshoe -- a pleasant surprise. I only wish there was a way to disable the top flash strobe but retain use of the AF assist beam AND send the pop signal through the PC synch only. It does what it claims and I'm pleased with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality construction Well made and works every time. If you use this hot shoe with a flash on top of the shoe and a flash trigger connected to the PC socket to trigger off-camera strobes, be aware that the off-camera strobes need to have the slave modes off, otherwise the TTL pre-flash will trigger the strobes too early and it won't show up in the exposure. I didn't turn off the slave mode in my Einstein strobes and couldn't understand why I didn't see the light from the strobes in my pictures when I did see them going off. I thought it was the fault of the hot shoe triggering the trigger a bit sooner or later than it should, until I realized that it was the TTL pre-flash that set off the strobes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well, defective and was replaced I use this because the Canon 6D does not come with a PC connection(why I don't know - price i guess), and I need to use this to use my Canon flash ETTL to trigger off camera flashes and also I use a wireless trigger plugged into the PC port of this item. I can use studio monolights and the Canon wireless flash system together. It works and allows me to mount my Canon 600 EX RT on top of this adapter, and allows me to plug my paul buff cyber commander into the pc connection (velcro-ed onto the side of my flash)to trigger my studio flash units. Would be 5 stars, except the first one I received was defective. It still worked, but it rattled around every time i turned my camera vertically/horizontally, I could hear it. Annoying. I emailed company (Vello people) and they said it shouldn't do that, return it to manufacturer. I was a bit annoyed they took no responsibility for it, but B&H sent a new one to me (overnight!) as I still needed it for a shoot! And paid for the return shipping! So, Awesome customer service from B&H is saving this review from being a 2 or 3 really. Just to clarify, the product worked the entire time I had it, but I was worried it would stop working while I needed it, since the manufacturer said it shouldn't do that lol.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from it works but... it worked one time, partly because the next time I used it I pushed the connection cord in too hard and it broke. It might be my fault, but it seems like the cord is not plugged-in all the way so I wanted to push it in further and that's when it broke. The pc cord has a nut on the end and I wanted to screw that in to prevent the cord from comming loose, but that caused me to brake it. Not sure of this product overall. You'd be better off getting the hotshoe connection with the cord already on it. Same price, and works everytime!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I use an external on-camera 550EX flash in E-TTL mode for fill and for firing reliability Radio Poppers on 2 additional flashes. Since my 60D has no PC-sync port this adapter is my solution to fire the Radio Popper transmitter. Seems well constructed, fits securely, holds my flash securely & works as advertized. Still early in my ownership.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Simple, Just Works I bought this to access a PC Socket on a Canon T3I, which does not have a PC socket. The Hot Shoe Adapter worked perfectly to give me a PC output. I am using the signal with a GigaPan Pro to provide a feedback that the shutter was activated. I have not had an opportunity to mount an external flash on the device as I do not intend to use it in that way. I like the device, It solved my problem, and I can see that it will be a very useful addition to my camera bag. I have several older flashes that need a PC connection. Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like it should I was amazed that my Canon D60 didn't have a PC socket even though I use a radio slave most of the time I still need a cord backup. This adopted does the job and is made well.
