The Blackmagic Design GPI & Tally Interface for ATEM Production Switchers is designed to display tallies to indicate the on-air status of video signals. I bought this unit as a necessary interface between my atem 1 switcher and a set of Tally Lights that I bought from Metasetz. Unfortunately with this particular solution the gpi and tally interface doesn't pass preview information and as such the tally lights would only give us program tally (red light). I returned this unit in order to purchase a system that would give us both preview (green) and program (red) information. The unit itself is well constructed and operated perfectly but unfortunately did not operate the way that we had hoped it would.

AM The GPI and Tally Interface only triggers the Program tally. You could consider the Shield for Arduino which can be programmed for both.

No. the Blackmagic Design GPI & Tally Interface for ATEM Production Switchers can only communicate the program feed from the ATEM Constellation.

I need to have a Ross switcher trigger tallies for BMD URSA Broadcast G2 cameras. Does this interface provide that?

The Blackmagic Design GPI & Tally Interface for ATEM Production Switchers is for ATEM switchers to tally 3rd party cameras. You might check with Ross to see if they offer our SDI tally signal.

Does this allow for tally's with preview as well as program? I'd like to use this with the Datavideo TD-5, which supports a green preview and red program light.

The GPI & Tally Interface only supports the Program Tally and not the Preview Tally. If you are a hobbyist type, the Blackmagic Arduino Shield may be programmed and set up to do this.

What Tally lights would I need to buy with Blackmagic Design GPI & Tally Interface for ATEM Production Switchers?

This box consists of a bunch of relays that closes a contact (a switch) that usually will hook up to a camera CCU or a monitor. If the device has a contact closure tally input, then just a DB25 connector and wire is needed and another connector that feeds the camera CCU or monitor. If you want actual lights, then you just need a power supply, a resistor and LED for each contact position.
