Cambo CS-STYX Overview

The Cambo CS-STYX HDSLR Support Rig System is an adjustable compact DV / DC rig with fully flexible handle offset and angle. It includes the CS-M1 compact camera/tripod mount, the CS-H1 grip handles, the CS-152 dual rod clamp, the CS-153 triple rod clamp, the CS-P1 adjustable ergonomic shoulder pad, CS-1522 iris rod (250mm), and CS-1546 iris rods (460mm).

The modular Cambo rig system allows you to modify the distance between the shoulder pad and DV as per requirement. With the weight centered on the handle axis, it is suitable for use with any follow-focus or matte box. As the distance between the optical center of the lens and the iris rods is flexible, the rig is compatible with different types of cameras.

We have a camera rental company in Holland, and in the past years we have tried several different DSLR rigs from different brands. We have had Cavision, Genus, Swedish Cameleon and Edelkrone. The Cambo rig is the only one we are still renting out. The other rigs where simply not strong enough to survive the heavy use in a rental environment. The strong thing, which we have not seen on any other rig, is the special shape of the rods. The rods don't have a flat and smooth surface, but there are trenches carved in the rod. The effect of the trenches is that every clamp or handle that you tighten onto the rods, will not move an inch. This was the problem with all the other brands: it was not possible to tighten the parts of the rig strong enough so they would not move. We have been renting out these cambo rigs for 3 years now and the units that we bought 3 years ago are still fully functional and rented out on a daily basis. To fit our needs, we have enlarged the rig with this part: Cambo 15mm Z-style Offset Rod Clamp and two extra 30 cm rods.
