WHH4NL 3.5 MON Line-to-Microphone Attenuator Cable for HDSLR Cameras is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good size, solid build, not cheap I use this cable to run the output of my Tascam DR-40 from its mount in my D300s's hotshoe into the camera's mic in. I also monitor the sound with earphones. The cable is a nice length for this sort of use, without excess cable getting in the way. However, I do note that the earphone cable can cause some operation noise on the Tascam's built-in mics as it flops around, so I might need to gaffer tape it to the camera to remove that noise path. The cable is solidly and tidily built, and the male line-level plug is good quality, but the 90 degree camera mic plug (also male) is cheaper and the monitor socket for earphones is OK quality. This cable isn't cheap in build, but neither is it in price. Overall, I'd give it a solid rating, but it's a tad overpriced, I think.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can you hear me now? It's great to hear whats going into you DSLR. With DSLR video becoming more popular, and it's audio being subpar, external audio sources are the only option. This cable allows you to monitor the sound coming out of an audio device and that is going into your video device. Simple right? Well it's extreemly important! Unless you are willing to wait till a perfect take could be ruined by bad audio, you need this. If you have the ability to monitor said audio source before and while recording, you don't have to worry. Otherwise, this will eliminate the headache of hoping you don't have to dub fresh dialog. Especially if you are conducting on the spot interviews, or live events where that is not an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent work around for DSLR audio DSLR shooting is the staple of my business. So many producers love the look and moreover the cost of using DSLR compared to RED or other cameras. Naturally the 'cost' factor of DSLR shooting means you can find yourself shooting as well as doing audio. I use the Whilrwind cable with my Tascam DR-40, as well as a Tascam DR-100. What makes this cable a must have is that it provides an additional monitor out as well as -10DB line out to camera. The -10DB to camera allows you to record straight to camera with a manageable signal level. All the DSLRs I've used (Nikon D800, Canon 5D, 7D, 60D) are tricky to get audio directly in as the signal is way to hot straight out of your source. The Whirlwind cable dumbs that signal down going directly to camera and done right will save you time in post. I have also used the cable with Magic Lantern installed and works well with that as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have in a DSLR video kit I was happy to find this cable... it gives me the ability to monitor audio while recording direct into my camera on set. I am a fan of backups and this gives me reassurance that i have captured my sound in a second location. if you are happy with the quality from camera it also prevents having to sync sound in post which is a huge time saver!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Cable for Canon 5D Mark II I got this is the DSLR Kit for the Zoom HN4. I use it with my Canon 5D Mark II. As you know internal microphones on DSLRs do not have the best audio. Also you cannot monitor audio from this camera with out a cable like this. The line has to be attenuated also. THis cable allows the zoom to be use as the external Microphone which has done a fantastic job. I mainly use it for monitoring because I have the Zoom HN4 recording. I am a professional Videographer/Photographer/Musician

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not great for Tascam digital recorders Bought this item with my Tascam DR-07 digital recorder to use with my XLR condenser mic. Plugged in the recorder and got an annoying ground hum. Checked with other equipment and got the same results. Do not know if this was a bad cable or if this brand doesn't jive with Tascam. Buyer beware!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Short I bought this to use with my Canon 7D and Zoom H4n when I shoot handheld with a shoulder mount and shotgun mic on-camera. Only problem is: when I mount my Zoom on my shoulder mount, the cable is too short to reach the mic input on my 7D-- by about six inches. I can't seem to find anywhere to mount the H4n to make this work. I would like to see a sketch of how they intended this to be used...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for DSLR shooters Using this cable to connect my Tascam DR-40 to my Canon DSLR. The whole setup enables me to use phantom powered mics, have dual recordings at different input levels (for safety) and monitor sound while recording. The cable is long enough to let you be creative with your device placemenyt. Overall, a great addition to my production tools!
