This E-films MxR Extreme Expresscard Adapter is a USB Expresscard for the Sony EX1/EX3/EX1R/PMW-350. Supporting all brands and sizes of SDHC/SDXC and UHS interface memory, the MxR Extreme is designed as a replacement for the Sony SxS Pro for the aforementioned range of Sony EX cameras. By speeding up downloads and providing 'flawless' recording from 1-60 frames per second, the MxR efficiently writes data to the inserted SD card.

MxR Extreme Expresscard Adapter for Sony EX1/EX3/EX1R/PMW-350
The E-film MxR Extreme is a custom designed and purpose built USB Expresscard that supports all brands and sizes of SDHC/SDXC including the very latest UHS interface memory
What Does it Do?
  • Replaces SxS Pro: The E-films MxR Extreme adapts SDHC/SDXC and UHS memory to replace Sony SxS Pro memory in the Sony range of EX cameras
  • Speeds up downloads: Downloading UHS based memory to computer using the E-films MxR Extreme is 35+ megabytes per second in a real world environment, and compare favorably to SxS which is approximately 75 megabytes per second
  • All under/overcranking speeds supported: Recording is flawless from 1-60 frames per second, the same as SxS Pro
  • Unlimited recording: Sony realeased a 64GB SxS-1 Pro card, which is surpassed by the combination of the E-film MxR Extreme and the Lexar 128GB card
How Does the E-Films MxR Extreme Do This?
It intercepts USB activity from the camera and converts that data stream, writing it to the SD card on the fly. It is so efficient at this conversion process, that it can convert even the highest speed overcranking of 60fps onto modest performing SD cards without a problem
Are There Any Risks Associated with Using SD Cards of Such Large Size?
There are always risks associated with using flash memory of any kind. And there were also risks to using tapes in the past. But the same applies now and then. Always ensure you are using well known and recommended brands and products. Test them before an important shoot, and carefully secure the media after the shoot
What Memory is the E-Films MxR Extreme Compatible With?
The E-Films MxR Extreme is guaranteed to be compatible with any SDHC, SDXC, and UHS memory cards that adhere to the SD Association Standards. SD cards that E-films has tested are listed below. Other brands not listed will work with the MxR Extreme, but they have not been tested, and E-films does not have an opinion on them

MxR Extreme Expresscard Adapter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable adapter for SD cards This adapter works great in my Sony PMW-200 camcorder. My only complaint is that in this product's description, it says that using this adapter will enable undercranking and overcranking (recording from 1-60 frames per second). Well, when used in the PMW-200, that function is disabled when using this adapter. Maybe it will work in the PMW-EX1R, but not in the PMW-200. Also, I have not used SDXC cards with this adapter, and am not sure if it will work or not. I have only used high speed class 10 32GB SDHC cards.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ehh... It works, most of time. Now in saying that, I thought it was the SD cards. I purchased PNY Pro-Elite 32 gig Class 10 SDHC-1 cards. They also stop recording once in a while as well, where my EX1's tell me I have to re-something my media (I can't think of the word right now) They work most of the time, but I would just spend the money and get the Sony Cards. Again, I'm not 100% sure if its the SD cards of the adapters. I've used several cards and it still stops recording once in a great while. Your choice

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6 months without a problem! This adapter has been a huge money saver and time saver with my EX1r. I've used it in multiple ways with all kinds of frame rates including undercranking and overcranking with not a single glitch. I use it with fast SDHC cards so don't know the minimum necessary. It is so much cheaper than SxS cards without no apparent performance difference. The ease of plugging the card into my computer and using XDCAM Browser software to make changes is so quick -- no additional reader needed and a USB 3.0 connection makes it even faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, a bit expensive Works flawlessly so far, I had to update my firmware to 1.26 first. The firmware update also seemed to have fixed the error/needs to be restored I used to experience with my older e-films expresscard adapter with a transcend 32gb class 6. I now use the new expresscard with a transcend 32gb class 10 without any problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No need for expensive SXS cards I have used the older version (not Extreme model) for 4 years and have found it completely reliable. This new model enables me to use higher speed SDHC cards of 32GB instead of being limited to the 16GB cards. I now use two of these in my Sony EX1 with Sandisk 32GB Extreme SDHC cards giving me approx 4 hours of recording time. I have tested overcranking and it works well. This is a reliable and more cost effective alternative to expensive SXS cards. Very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expresscard Adapter Works Great Works well with my EX1-R and PMW-200
    Date published: 2016-09-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from seems pretty good simple, easy to use. Does what it should. I have not done any tests with the speed in a special reader. Since I'm using this as an adapter, that means a couple of things. #1, I'm poor and cannot afford high $ card readers for SxS. and #2, since the adapter is for the ever-so-handy SD card, I simply use my way awesome SD card reader. I can tell you that their seems to be NO problems with this adapter slowing down the recording process!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MxR Extreme for PMW200 This unit is great and allows me to record XDCAM EX onto SDHC cards and simply back up the files and hand the cards to my client. I hold the files until client gets the footage into their system. The SDHC or SDXC are real price performers...
