The MDW Hi-Res Parametric EQ 3.0 from Avid is an EQ plug-in for use with the company's Pro Tools systems (TDM and RTAS). Developed by George Massenburg, the creator of the parametric EQ, the plug-in emulates the filter curves of his legendary GML 8200 reference-standard hardware equalizer. Variable Q and choice of three- or five-bands of EQ are available with wide frequency selections on each band.
The EQ offers a number of features including the ability to view the frequency grid in 6, 12, or 24dB resolution for more editing precision. IsoPeak lets you quickly isolate and sweep through the frequency spectrum to find a targeted frequency. The A/B snapshots allows one to toggle between two EQ band settings, copy one setting to the other, and invert the phase of a track.
When used with an ICON work surface or Control Surface, the EQ organizes the bands into ergonomic groups on the channel strips. The plug-in also provides for tailoring its functioning based on the user's DSP requirements. Use of the 3-band version conserves resources, allowing for eight instantiations per DSP chip at 48kHz and 96kHz on Pro Tools HD Accel systems. The 5-band version allows for instantiating four EQs per DSP chip at 48kHz and 96kHz on Pro Tools HD Accel systems.
