Photogenic Eclipse Overview

  • 1Description

This Photogenic 60" umbrella with its removable black cover has an extra white satin panel added during construction. The result is the elimination of the reflection of the metal frame of the umbrella in the eyes of your subject, or on highly reflective surfaces, such as chrome or brass.

This size is perfect for portraits of small groups of people, and medium sized product set ups.

Softens and broadens the light output of any strobe or lower wattage constant light.
Removable black cover allows the light source to "shoot-through", as a more direct light.

Note:Ribs are hidden in bounce mode. Removing black cover for shoot-through exposes the ribs.

    Photogenic Eclipse Reviews

Umbrella - "Eclipse" White, Black Cover - 60" is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from No more spines Offers the conveniece of quick setup and compact storage needed for event photography with the added benefit of fabric covered spokes for more pleasing catch lights. A few things to beware of: 1. It's 50 in diameter not 60. So it doesn't provide much more coverage than a 45 umbrella since its only 5 bigger. 2. It's heavier than a standard umbrella so I recommend using a sturdy light stand to support it securely. I use a Matthews Medium Duty stand. 3. The sitching on the fabric covering the spokes looks like it could wear out but it's so inexpensive, I'm not going to worry about it. 4. For group shots the catch light is so small you can't tell the difference between a normal umbrella. For closeups I still prefer a softbox, but its better than a regular umbrella.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great umbrella, but...... This is a great umbrella. I have three. However, one of mine is beginning to fall apart. The little threads that hold the frame together with the satin cover are starting to separate. I am constantly having to reattach the black outside material back to the frame via the little end caps. If you handle them very carefully and don't pack them in light stand cases (as I do), then they should last a long time. I just got a new one in the other day and it's real sweet!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not so great good results but quality is far from good. When you remove the black cover to convert to a shoot-through it's really a pain. The black cover comes off easy enough but it would be very easy to lose the plastic cap and rubber washer that hold the black cover on. Additionally, after 2 uses the seams are starting to rip and that's my biggest complaint - it's not going to last or hold up under pro use. I also hate the exposed ribs when you remove the black cover. Next time I'll spend whatever I need, to get a high quality product. My fault - I cheaped out! First product from b&h that I didn't like!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great value and great quality I use it for Studio and in home setups. It is sturdy, well built, holds its shape and has a nice a light output quality. For large areas, these can be aimed at ceilings to give you a better illumination of larger areas. you'll need high power strobes and a wireless trigger. I find no cons at this point in time..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from bought one, will buy a few more Great umbrella for a nice soft light for portraiture and beauty photography. the satin white diffuses beautifully the light and allows for good transmission during shoot through. you can easily shape the light by keeping it half closed to fully open depending on your lighting needs. it's well built and feels like a quality product. As with any umbrella, you have to be careful to not bang it up too much, but if you use sand bags on location or have someone to stabilize your light stands, you should be safe. the only downside i would put is that you should choose if you want to use it as bounce or shoot through before a shoot because taking it off and on can take some time, and you don't want to keep your client or model waiting too much. I'm going to order a few more to add for other light stands and also as a just in case backup

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Umbrella! Love the Eclipse line of umbrellas--bought this to replace one that just died after many years of use. Well made, and the solid shaft does not fail after numerous tightenings in the holder. Also love the fact that the ribs are not exposed, PLUS shoot-through as well. Well worth the price!
