Canon 3509B023AA overview

  • 1Description

The Canon PowerShot SX200 IS Digital Camera features 12.1 megapixel resolution in an elegant, classic design. From wide cityscapes to the play at second base, the 12x optical zoom keeps pace with your demanding digital lifestyle. Canon's newly developed Smart AUTO Mode makes perfect pictures as easy as point and shoot. Utilizing a set of predefined shooting situations, the SX200 intelligently analyzes your composition to select the best exposure, color, and contrast--even under harsh lighting conditions. Advanced Face Detection Technology automatically sets focus, flash, and white balance for beautiful portraits and group shots. Industry-leading features in a retro-classic design make the SX200 the stylish camera of choice for capturing all of your digital memories.

Incredible 12x Wide-angle Zoom Lens
The 12x wide-angle optical zoom lens provides a 35mm focal range equivalent of 28-336mm and helps to bring your subject closer with razor-sharp precision and stunning life-like color. In addition, the camera is equipped with a 4x digital zoom, which combined with the optical zoom provides an incredible 48x total zoom range for capturing even the smallest details of your subject.
Smart AUTO Mode
Concentrate on your subjects--let the camera handle the pictures. Canon's Smart Auto mode analyzes your shooting conditions with 18 pre-defined scene settings. From a wide, floral landscape to a night on the town with friends, the SX200 intelligently captures your memories--maximizing quality while minimizing effort.
Optical Image Stabilizer
Canon's optical image stabilizer counteracts camera shake caused by hand shake. Vibration sensors detect the angle and speed of hand movement and send this information to the processor, allowing the camera to compensate. This adds stability to hand-held, telephoto and moving shots and enables shooting at shutter speeds of up to three stops slower with no noticeable increase in image blur.
DIGIC 4 Image Processor with iSAPS Technology
Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor is designed to improve processing speed and image quality, providing faster startup, autofocus, and playback. iSAPS is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the DIGIC 4 processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
3" Pure Color II LCD
The 3" LCD screen of the PowerShot SX200 IS has 230,000 pixels of resolution, and features a wide viewing angle for easy viewing, whether you're shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. Smooth color transitions, high-resolution, and scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coatings make composing and viewing effortless, even under bright sunlight.
Advanced Face Detection Technology
Canon's advanced Face Detection Technology keeps every face in focus. Intelligent Contrast Correction, Red-eye Correction, and the latest focus-tracking technology deliver consistent sharpness and natural skin tones.

The Face Detection Self Timer allows the photographer to get into the picture by automatically detecting an increase in the number of faces and automatically making the appropriate exposure adjustments. Place the camera on a stand or tripod, initialize the Face Detection Self-timer and the camera will wait for the photographer's face to enter the frame before taking the perfect shot.
Blink Detection
Canon's Blink Detection system uses the power of Face Detection to determine whether a subject in the previous shot had closed eyes. If closed eyes are detected, a "blink warning" icon appears, allowing you to re-take the shot before your subject or subjects leave the scene.
High ISO Sensitivity
The PowerShot SX200 IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto (equivalent to ISO 3200) settings that reduce the effects of camera shake giving you greater flexibility under low-light conditions.
HD Video Recording
The PowerShot SX200 IS captures beautiful, broadcast-quality HD video! Capture a scene from that concert, a friend's wedding, or your recent vacation. Easily share your memories on your big screen HDTV by connecting the camera through the all-digital HDMI port.

    Canon 3509B023AA reviews

PowerShot SX200 IS Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 115.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like it I purchased this camera to capture those family memories that I was missing because I didn't want to set up my Canon 5D. It stays in my purse for easy access and I love it. I have purchased other point and shoot digitals in the past and was less than thrilled but this one has all the bells and whistles. I like the fact that I can shoot manually and it has a fairly sturdy construction, other than the plastic door for the AV port. The 12x optical zoom comes in pretty handy too. Soimetimes the face detection does not work as well as I would like and the battery life is a little short for my taste. I am a loyal Canon user and overall I am pleased with this product. I jokingly call myself a camera snob but this one passes the test.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Second Camera for DSLR Users I purchased the Canon PowerShot SX200 IS digital camera as my purse camera -- one that I could carry with me everywhere so I won't miss a shot if I don't have my Canon Digital Rebel XTi with me. I wanted a point-and-shoot camera that would do almost everything that my DSLR would do, and the SX200 meets that need perfectly. I especially like the long zoom capability, manual settings option, and the convenience of a movie function, which by the way delivers sharp movies with great sound. The IS feature really helps, of course. I have played with all of the settings, and I have been able to achieve great results, but I usually stay with Manual because I want the same control that the XTi gives me. I love this camera and I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best one yet! This my 4th digital. When we travel, I want a small camera that basically does most of what an SLR would do. This one is a bit heavier in weight than some tiny compacts, however, that can be overlooked with all of it's features. It can take a close up macro shot of a ant; zoom in and take a crystal clear shot of a jet skier at dusk. It takes photos inside without flash, clear, realistic light tones. Great little camera - it's manual, aperature priority, shutter priority - plus a multitude of auto settings, makes this perfect small compact camera. If I could change anything, it would only be to make it smaller or lighter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera This camera is a super upgrade. the 12x zoom is excellent; to have a camera like this with a 12x zoom that is so good in this size is better than expectations. It takes great movies aand the screen is great to see the photos. I have been a Canon user and have the 40D DSLR. this camera is great to take everywhere and expect photos that are super. there are many times that my DSLR is just too big. This camera is excellent and goes EVERYWHERE with me so I dont miss a shot because I didnt have my DSLR. Really like the photos and video this camera takes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Camera! Easy to use. Great Pics I love shooting with this camera. I use a Canon 40D most of the time and was looking for a camera to run around with easily. The quality seems good in the pictures I have taken up to this point, even at sunset on the beach with people in the shot. The menu's are easily navigated and I didn't read the book. I love the fact that there are creative modes as well as easy modes this helps when I need to hand over my camera to a novice. Cons: SuperMacro & Macro the lens gets in the way of the light sometimes, and shots can be harder to compose, depending on the angle of the shot. & The pop up flash stays up when it's on whether or not you have the flash set to fire. Would have preferred it to be a pop-up when needed instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent superzoom camera The SX200 is a great camera with just several minor ergonomic issues. First and foremost the image quality is terrific throughout the zoom range. Compared to a regular Elf the image is much sharper and at 12 MP you can cut later and still have a high resolution image. Size wise it is just a bit ticker than a regular compact and shoot. The zoom is quite fast as well as the focus. The back screen is excellent- it washes out somewhat in bright light but not as bad as older cameras. It is high resolution and you can inspect your shot easily. Image stabilization works great. The shortcomings are small and not bad. The pop out light even when you do not need it is bad idea. Also it comes exactly where your fingers are when you hold it. The recovery after a shot is slow, acceptable but I wish it was a bit faster. The cover for the lens is flimsy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I was looking for a second camera, that I could take everywhere and could change manually settings like shutter speed or aperture, and this little camera has it all. It also has a great macro and stabilization system, and records video in 1280 x 720. The only thing that I don't like, as said by others, is the pop up flash. I tend not to use the flash and I would like to put my left forefinger exactly in the place where the flash actually pops up. I would have loved to find an option like Do not pop up flash at start up

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nimble and Flexible The SX200 fulfills my dream list of digital camera features in a small, well conceived and beautifully executed package. Super macro, wide angle and 12X Zoom, manual controls and well considered scene modes perform stunningly well. This is a camera with enough options to allow you to explore and grow as a photographer. Out of the box, a new user will be able to create impressive photographs. A more experienced user will really appreciate the quality of the design and technology, as well as the depth of creative control. This is a nimble camera that you will want to have with you every day, which also means that you will be prepared, camera in hand, to take pictures that you might otherwise have missed. I love the zoom and the super macro modes. Using the zoom, and not entering others' personal space, I have shot some portraits that I treasure. The smallness is not just a factor for portability and convenience, the SX200 is also a friendlier looking and less intrusive camera than the heavier, bulkier, and more serious looking SLRs and hybrids. I have found that people are more relaxed around a less imposing camera. I know people who rave about their SLR's image quality, but they shoot more valuable images (quantity and quality) with their second camera -- the one they are more likely to be toting. If you are looking for a second camera, consider that it could become your go-to camera, and then do your own comparisons -- unless you really use all the extra lenses and gear that most SLR users shlep with them (or leave behind). I have been shooting digital images since the olden days of very expensive one megapixel cameras. I have enjoyed the evolution of the technology. The intelligence that has been applied in developing the SX200 is staggering. I am a visual artist: painter and designer with an MFA from Pratt and a BFA from RISD. I care about quality, color, good tools and good design. I work in paint, with computer imaging and print -- natural media and and photography, inkjet and commercial presses. The quality of the12+ megapixel images is ample enough to create large sharp inkjet prints and for commercial print reproduction. The SX200 helps me make better images. In the process of considering which camera to purchase, I did my research. I considered the Canon G10, having used a friend's -- and concluded that the camera raw feature of the G10 was less important to me than the generous optical zoom, compactness, lightness and other advantages of the SX200. I crosschecked specifications, downloaded and read the owner's manual, spent days perusing digital camera review pages and user comments -- pro and con -- and I became even more adept at reading between the lines. I read about competing cameras, and having owned other brands,I keep returning, with relief to the brilliance of the Canons. I weighed the evidence, and my needs, and then made my choice. With some hesitation I bought the SX200.. Now that it has arrived, I am quite impressed and pleasantly surprised by all that is possible with my Canon SX200. It is a good choice for me. It does all that I need, and more. Oh, I'm an old fashioned girl: I bought the black one.
