Canon SD400 Overview

The Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera is a small camera with big camera features. The 3.8x optical zoom lens has a blazing fast f-stop of f/2.0. This allows you to shoot in low-light, and you can also create out of focus backgrounds with sharp subjects. The 28-105mm lens (35mm equivalent) gives you the flexibility to shoot a variety of subjects.

The 10.0 megapixel CMOS sensor along with Canon's advanced DIGIC 4 image processor are the main components in the Canon HS System. This system along with the camera's bright f/2.0 lens, ISO settings of up to 3200, and optical image stabilization allow you to get quality images in low-light.

You can compose your images and play them back on the bright 3" LCD monitor. The display has a wide viewing angle and is easy to see even in bright light. Perfect exposure is easy with auto mode and the 23 scene modes for difficult conditions, but advanced users have complete control with aperture and shutter priority mode. In aperture-priority mode, you set the aperture and the camera automatically selects an appropriate shutter speed. This lets you create sharp subjects with beautifully blurred backgrounds, or landscapes with foreground, middle ground and background all in focus. Shutter-priority mode lets you choose a shutter speed while the camera automatically selects the aperture. Higher shutter speeds are great for catching stop-action shots of moving subjects, while lower shutter speeds can create atmospheric blur.

Take your photos to the next level with the camera's creative effect modes. Miniature Effect creates an illusion where very large objects appear in miniature proportions. You can also use the Fisheye Effect that uses barrel distortion to warp the image around the center, giving a distinctive curvature effect to the photo.

Action photos are easy to take with high-speed burst mode that allows you to shoot 8.4 fps when you hold down the shutter button. If you want to capture your subject in motion the SD4000 captures 720p HD video. You can get creative with the Super Slow Motion Movie function. Whether you're going for a dreamy, creative slant when documenting family moments, or making a highlight film of your kids' greatest sports plays, you'll love the high quality capture of this feature. You can play back video or stills on your HDTV by connecting the camera directly to the TV with its mini-HDMI connector.

Canon HS System
The Canon HS System takes the frustration out of low-light shooting. The system delivers clear, blur-free photos with all the ambiance intact, and frees you from the sometimes unwanted effects of using the flash. Beautiful low-light shots are possible at both low and high ISO speeds, and the dynamic range is expanded to retain maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas.
Bright f/2.0 Lens
The Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH lens sports an f/2.0 aperture, perfect for creating enticing portraits, by drawing attention to the face and blurring the background.
High-Speed Burst Mode
High-Speed Burst is needed when you're trying to capture fast-moving action. In High-Speed Burst mode, the camera automatically shoots continuously at 8.4 fps when you hold down the shutter button. This mode lets you shoot sporting events, kids in motion, wildlife and any situation with unpredictable movement.
Shooting Modes
The camera features 23 advanced shooting modes for the best photos under difficult conditions.
Aperture and Shutter Priority
For photography enthusiasts the ability to control aperture and shutter speed is key. The Aperture and Shutter priority modes on the SD4000 make it easy for anyone to take extra control over the look and feel of their photos. In Aperture-priority mode you set the aperture and the camera automatically selects an appropriate shutter speed. This lets you create sharp subjects with beautifully blurred backgrounds, and landscapes with foreground, middle ground and background all in focus. Shutter-priority mode lets you choose a shutter speed while the camera automatically selects the aperture. Higher shutter speeds are great for catching stop-action shots of moving subjects, while lower shutter speeds can create atmospheric blur.
Creative Effects
The camera offers creative effects similar to those found in certain professional lenses. Miniature Effect creates an illusion where very large objects appear in miniature proportions. The Fisheye Effect uses barrel distortion to warp the image around the center, giving a distinctive curvature effect to the photo.
Shoot Video in HD and Enjoy Easy HD Playback
The Canon PowerShot SD4000 lets you record video in beautiful 720p high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition TV monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once.
Super Slow Motion Movie Function
Give your movies a whole new look with the Super Slow Motion Movie function. Whether you're going for a dreamy, creative slant when documenting family moments, or making a highlight film of your kids' greatest sports plays, you'll love the high quality capture of this feature.
