The Shining Technology CitiDISK HDV Digital Video Recorder (120GB) uses the FireWire interface allowing tapeless video acquisition direct to the hard drive. Footage from HDV/DV camcorder tapes is converted into formats compatible with NLE (non-linear editing systems). Video clips from the camcorder are stored in either DV, AVI, MOV, or M2T formats in a pre-formatted FAT32 hard drive while HDV streams are always stored in M2T format, even if other settings are selected.
By pressing the record button in VCR mode, you can easily archive HDV/DV footage to available formats for back-up purposes. The MPEG2 transport stream is stored into the unit as a M2T file, as well as DV (DV25) and DVCPro50 (DV50) for instant editing capability. ‘QPLAY/PlayAll’ button helps you view the last captured scene, and by holding the button for 3 seconds you can also navigate the previous clips.
The CitiDISK HDV recorder automatically detects incoming MiniDV/DVCam/DVCPro (DV or DV25), DVCPro50, or HDV stream formats and 2-ch-16bit-48Khz/2-ch-16bit-44.1Khz/4-ch-12bit-32khz audio sampling rates, and provides record/playback in either format. With the Pre-scene loop recording, loss of important scenes can be prevented as the HDV/DV/DV50 streams are buffered in internal memory and instantly recorded to the unit’s hard drive when the record button is pressed.
A 90-minute rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery is embedded in the recorder and ensures non-stop shooting even after the 3-hour external battery power starts draining. Being lightweight, the recorder is shock-resistant with an internal shock absorption cushioning. A belt-configured carrying pouch is included in the package, which can fit multiple types of external battery packs.
