LED Macro Ring Light is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money I was looking for continuous light for macro photography. Considered many options, and saw the article in Popular Photography about this LED ring. The adaptors that came with the ring light allow me to use this with all my macro lens. The 48 LED lamps provide a great deal of light without heat. And this unit provides full circle light, or light on either the left or right side. Macro ring lights by other manufacturers are very expensive and this unit is well worth the dollars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is for limited uses - macro only. I bought this unit to provide needed light on close-up objects without resorting to multiple light sources or daylight shade - a quick way to get even light on smaller objects. For this use, it works fine withing its limitations. First off, it's definitely for macro use - up close and personal on small objects. The light falls off rapidly the farther away you get from your subject. 36 is stretching its capability, and the light output is quite low at that distance. For convenience, use two AA batteries in the power pack, which is mounted in the hot shoe (no connection made there). For longer use, the supplied AC/DC converter can be plugged into the power pack, and there is a handy switch on that unit to alternate between battery and wall power.Within a distance of 10 or so to the subject, the light is sufficient and does not cast an annoying shadow. The supplied adaptors allow for a variety of lens diameters, so it is usable on almost any SLR camera lens. It's definitely not usable as a supplemental light for longer distances - over a yard from the lens. The output is just not sufficient to make a difference. It's what it's billed to be - a macro lens.Assembly is straightforward. Screw the adapter ring into the lens, mount the light unit on the adapter ring, plug it into the power pack in the hot shoe, and you are ready to go. The constant-on light allows your camera to take an exposure reading before doing the shot. It's a lightweight unit, but feels a bit cheesy and plastic because of this. However, this helps to prevent lens creep on zoom lenses when shooting downwards. One may have to place a finger on the extension of the zoom lens if the angle approaches straight down; any extra weight may provoke this.Again, for closeup work on small objects, it's a useful tool. As a supplemental light source for longer distances, it's not useful. All in all, I would recommend it for its stated uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for the money This is a great light. light and easy to use. It comes with several adapters for different lens diameters. However, it lacks to the option to dim down since it runs a bit too bright, especially if you use it for portrait photography.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works OK with Macro Lens It works OK for macro shots. Provides about 3 stops of more light. Not too crazy about the quality of the product though. When the light unit is attached to the ring in front of the lens. It's too loose. The light unit would rotate too much. However since it is round in shape. It does not affect the actual shooting. Just an annoyance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for. Fairly cheaply constructed but functions as advertised. Adapters are made of metal instead of cheap plastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lighting solution - sparkly objects I purchased this product in the hopes that it would make it easier for me to photograph jewelry. So far, it has worked beautifully for vintage rhinestone jewelry. The stones just POP!! Beautiful! I had also hoped to use it to light shiny objects such as sterling silver cuff bracelets that have a very shiny finish. So far I've only experimented a little this hasn't worked at all - too much glare....But I'm hoping to play around with this more and get it to do what I need it to do. I am very pleased with it and would purchase it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job for cheap I use the light for dental macro photography on a dedicated 60mm lens. Its bright enough to allow for hand held shots. I'm concerned with the build quality, especially the battery cover. I would not be surprised if it were to break with opening it. The unit stays on a dedicated camera and lens, but if it were to be placed and removed frequently it would be at risk of breaking.
