This brought my Friction Arm back to life!! Unfortunately, it seems like it may be necessary to replace every time the threads wear down.

Needed to replace the knob on my old heavily used Manfrotto magic arm. Perfect fit.

The Manfrotto R132,27 Tilt Locking Knob (B&H# MAR132.27) fits on the R3, 0911 Manfrotto screw which is a proprietary product, the two not having any specifications provided by the manufacturer nor parts dealers. However, they both appear to share a metric diameter and have a fine pitch.

What is the female threaded part made out of? The original is soft brass that strips a lot. Is there a steel version?

The female threads of the Manfrotto R132,27 Tilt Locking Knob (B&H# MAR132.27) are made of brass. Having said that, tightening this type of knob too tightly can result in damage to the products with which it's used. So, if one is finding that the threads are getting stripped then there is a good chance that the knob is being overtightened relative to its capacity. If that degree of force is needed then we'd recommend considering stronger options than the product with which it's currently being used. No steel version is available.
