Vienna Strings Complete Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library features extended libraries for the whole range of symphonic string instruments found in the Vienna Strings Complete Standard Library (required).

Note: This is a license that unlocks the applicable Upgrade (Extended) Library content already included with the purchase of the Standard Library.

  • Solo Strings I Upgrade to Full Library - Vienna Instruments

The Solo Strings I Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples to the Solo Strings I virtual instrument (Standard Library required). Featuring the Violin, Viola, Violoncello and Double Bass, and performed by 4 soloists with many years of international concert work, the library provides instruments that are sensitive and clear, exact and homogeneous, technically perfect and utterly convincing in their musicality.

Apart from the entire sample library of the Horizon Series' Solo Strings Edition, this instrument contains many additional articulations. "Zigane," the leisurely "smeared" portamentos, are particularly impressive as Interval Performances using the enhanced audio engine's algorithms. Other articulations are the fast Interval Performances using legato, marcato and spiccato techniques.

"Harsh" articulations are played with an especially raw, almost brutal attack and are available as superbly effective Interval and Repetition Performances. Furthermore, there are special Performance Trills, repetitions in spiccato and ricochet articulations, sustains with fading vibrato, ponticello, sul tasto and numerous natural and artificial harmonics.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

Load times are extremely low and 64 stereo voices per instance can stream from the hard disc. A RAM optimizing utilities clears unused samples out of RAM. Users can easily create their own instruments, using "drag and drop" functionality, and the instrument provides the ability for velocity crossfades and release control to be switched on or off in real time.

Note: Software requires a ViennaKey USB protection device if one is not already on the system.

    Requires Standard Library.

Extended library of solo strings that along with Solo Strings I provide the raw material for recording absolutely authentic string parts
    Includes almost 77,000 samples
Adds the full library of articulations

Featuring a Violin Ensemble (6 players,) Viola Ensemble (4 players,) Violoncello Ensemble (3 players) and Double bass Ensemble (2 players), the library includes many of the techniques from Chamber Strings I but also includes selections played "con sordino" (with mutes) that lend themselves well to soft, intimate arrangements.

The small string ensembles present a full instrumental range, rich in nuances. With the help of enhanced performance algorithms, the ensembles' liveliness unfolds while playing these instruments. Tender or expressive, quiet or dynamic, light or energetic, the Chamber Strings exude their flair in intimate arrangements, either in chamber music compositions, or in divided string groups.

Large string ensembles combined with the Chamber Strings are enhanced by additional nuances and a wealth of variants. Apart from the entire sample library of the Horizon Series' Chamber Strings Edition, the instruments contains short and sustained notes, crescendos and diminuendos, but also includes Vienna's unique Interval Performances, including legato, portamento, and trill performances.

  • Orchestral Strings I Upgrade to Full Library - Vienna Instruments (Download)

Orchestral Strings I Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Orchestral Strings I virtual instrument Standard Library (required) and features a Violin Ensemble (14 players) and a Viola Ensemble (10 players). The violinists were headed by Christian Eisenberger, who has collaborated with artists and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Martha Argerich, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Herbert von Karajan, Gidon Kremer, Kent Nagano, Roger Norrington, Murray Perahia, Andras Schiff, Georg Solti and many others. The viola ensemble was headed by Anett Homoki who is a member of the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic as well as of the Volksoper Vienna.

The string sections of the Vienna Instruments offer an extremely wide range of articulations. The special qualities of this instrument are a result of the multitude of performances it contains. With larger ensembles, the random effect of articulations like Performance Trills or fast Legatos is especially pronounced, lending those patches remarkable authenticity. The larger the ensemble, the more intense the random effect, that is the natural "inexactitude" among the musicians when changing from one tone to the next. This randomization gets extra attention with the "Repetition Performance Pizzicatos" only available with the large string ensembles recorded in two different tempos.

Additional samples are also included like short staccatos, expressive Interval Legatos, espressivo con sordino, as well as extensions of the tonal ranges for sustains and staccatos. The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel.

Load times are extremely low and sixty-four stereo voices per instance can stream from the hard disc. A RAM optimizing utilities clears unused samples out of RAM. Users can easily create their own instruments, using "drag and drop" functionality, and the instrument provides the ability for velocity crossfades and release control to be switched on or off in real time.

  • Orchestral Strings II Upgrade to Full Library - Vienna Instruments (Download)

Orchestral Strings II Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library provides additional articulations and samples for the Orchestral Strings II virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The instrument features a Cello Ensemble (8 players) and Bass Ensemble (6 players.) The leading voices of the two string sections are Argentinian Rubén Dubrovsky, founder of the Vienna Bach Consort and Martin Deuring, an internationally active solo bassist and founding member of the chamber music ensemble "Ensemble Plus."

The articulations of the Cello and Double Bass Ensembles correspond to those of the Vienna Instruments Orchestral Strings I. Playing styles includes fast Interval Performances in legato, marcato and spiccato styles, Performance Trills, "harsh," spiccato and pizzicato Repetition Performances, plus artificial harmonics as well as various ponticello articulations, that is, tones played near the bridge.

Both ensembles' tonal ranges are extended with the Cellos' staccatos and sustains now extending up to A5 and the Double Basses up to G4.

The Vienna Instruments user interface is clearly arranged and includes pre-configured patches for immediate playability with no learning curve. The interface uses a powerful proprietary streaming audio engine that can load up to 3,456 articulations (patches) on one MIDI channel. • Vienna Dimension Strings Bundle Upgrade to Full Library - Vienna Instruments (Download)

The Vienna Dimension Strings Bundle Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library is a sample-based virtual instrument that pushes the envelope when it comes to sampling technology. The recordings in Vienna's famed Silent Stage started as early as the fall of 2008. With the additional samples in this edition providing further articulations and samples for the Standard Library (required), it is by far the most ambitious and intensive production in the history of the Vienna Symphonic Library.

The twenty-four string players of this library were recorded in homogenous groups (eight violins, six violas, six cellos and four double basses) to capture the slight imperfections of human playing. However, individual microphones were also used for each player, allowing access to each individual voice, with each string of each instrument recorded in its full range.

With the included presets one can decide whether to have the musicians play on all strings (with a change to the next string in fifth intervals), or forced playing on a certain string. Playing with no open strings is also an option. The technique of using individual microphones is well suited for divisi writing. For the violins, preset setups for two groups of four players and four desks of two players are provided.

As with all the company's libraries, the emphasis is on making the instruments sound as if they are being played by real players, not a quantified and sterile collection of sounds. Even the best musicians never play in perfect unison. To that end, individual changes in dynamic levels of the players within a group can be achieved easily with velocity crossfades. It is also possible to designate one or two "weak" musicians to play sloppy notes, with hesitant or delayed starts, for instance.

    • "Harsh" articulations - brutally forced fortissimo sounds with short articulations, included as the loudest velocity layer with repetition performances of staccato, portato and spiccato playing techniques
    • Finger noises as separately recorded sounds from shifting positions on the fingerboard make for a more realistic sonic impression in combination with single-note samples
    • Various ambient noises, recorded for each individual player, such as breathing, positioning/depositioning of the instrument, chair noises when leaning back and forth, browsing sheet music (in three dynamic levels)
    • Sculpt the ensemble sound by adjusting level and position in the mix for each player or desk in order to create a personal string sound
    • Assign individual controllers such as velocity crossfade and/or expression for each player for realistic dynamic changes and customized balance within the ensemble
    • Ready-made presets for selecting the individual strings of each player of a group - "force strings" (all notes will be performed on the preferred string), "avoid open strings" and "use open strings"
    • Perfectly adjusted vibrato/non-vibrato articulations with unlimited crossfade possibilities (available for sustains, legato and portamento performances)
    • Mix articulations within the ensemble (e.g., desk 1 with vibrato, desk 2 without vibrato)
    • Free positioning of individual players or desks on a virtual stage when using Vienna MIR PRO or Vienna MIR PRO 24 optional ambience software
  • Harps Upgrade to Full Library - Vienna Instruments (Download)

Harps Upgrade to Full Library from Vienna Symphonic Library includes additional articulations and samples for the Harp virtual instrument Standard Library (required). The entire instrument provides the ability to write orchestral music from the mid-19th century that requires the use of two harps.

Harp 1, played by Ruth Rojahn, includes normal, muted, harmonics and bisbigliando single notes and medium speed major, diminished, pentatonic and whole tone glissandi. The controller structure of the library provides extremely flexible and quick access to various controls, allowing the user to switch between ranges, different tempos, up and down movements and different scales in real-time while playing.

The second harp, played by Julia Reth, contains an even larger number of single notes, also offering playing styles like damped, fingernail playing and pedal glissandos. A lovely ethereal effect is created by the bisbigliando variations, the whispering of tender tremolos on two strings playing the same note.
