Behringer X32 overview

  • 1Description

The X32 40-Channel, 25-Bus Digital Mixing Console from Behringer provides a wealth of features in a compact design, ideal for professional live and recording applications. The mixer features 32 fully programmable MIDAS-designed mic preamps. The Main LCR (left, center, right) channels, 16 mix busses, and 6 independent matrix mix busses all have 6-band parametric EQs and integrated dynamics processing for excellent sonic tailoring capabilities.

The mixer has 16 analog XLR outputs, as well as 6 balanced line-level 1/4" Aux inputs and outputs and two 1/4" headphone jacks. The talkback section allows you to communicate with the integrated mic or an external mic. The mixer also has a pair of AES50 ports that feature KLARK TEKNIK SuperMAC networking capability for use with 48-channel digital snakes for ultra-low jitter and latency. The system also has an integrated expansion port that ships with a 32 x 32 XUF FireWire/USB audio card installed.

The built-in Virtual FX offers 8 true-stereo FX slots that deliver high-end simulations of popular processors, such as Lexicon 480L and PCM70, EMT250 and Quantec QRS, etc. The integrated high-power 40-bit floating-point DSP system delivers "unlimited" dynamic range, no internal overload, and near-zero latency between inputs and outputs for top-quality performance. The mixer also has 6 mute groups and 8 DCA groups on 8 dedicated faders for easy access.

The intuitive interface offers tremendous ease-of-use with a dedicated channel strip section that has direct-access controls. There is also a high-resolution 7" color TFT display with associated controls and individual RGB backlit graphic LCDs on every channel. The unit has 25 motorized 100mm faders for extensive user-definable control.

The system has a USB flash connector to provide file storage for uncompressed recordings, show presets, and system updates. There are also connections that support the P-16 personal monitoring system, AES/EBU stereo digital outputs, and MIDI. Adjustable line delays are available on all of the physical inputs and outputs.

Other features of the X32 include networked remote control or show setups with the included remote editor software via USB and Ethernet ports. You can even conveniently handle the scene management duties of complex productions. All of these features are packed into a compact and durable enclosure to ensure a long life of professional use.

    Behringer X32 reviews

    X32 40-Channel, 25-Bus Digital Mixing Console is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from If only I had this 30 Years ago I have only had the X32 for a few weeks and each day I am finding more and more to like about it.If only I had this console 30 years ago. I am 55 now and like a kid in a candy store. I mapped all 32 I/o into Reaper last night and was playing around. Starting and stopping the recording and playback from the assignable section. The night before I was wrenching on all the effects. Some really good stuff in there. It could use a good harmonizer though. Before that I set up a 3 way stereo crossover on the matrix outs and used the center out for a mono sub woofer out. Way too cool.I am not sure where the DSP memory wall is but I have not hit it yet. X32 - changed my game

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent bang for the buck. I purchased this mixer to do studio and live events and was attracted by the number of features available for such a small price. After unboxing, I was able to get a basic setup up and running within 15 minutes. Flying faders, dynamics, effects, and seamless iPad integration, you can't beat this for the price. Thumb drive recording and playback is very cool. As other reviewers have noted, the faders and nobs don't see as sturdy as other boards however they get the job done. Time will tell how well they hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for live mixing This is a nice board. Sound is clean. We use it in our church. Each channel has a customizable color and text label display. Great full board save and restore. We use to save the entire board settings or during programs when changing a scene, rather than having to mute and un mute mics and adjust levels. With this we were able to toss a lot of other sound equipment because it is already included in this board. If you buying for a new venue, this board may be the only thing you need, besides amps and speakers. This board can be controlled via network remotely via an iPad, nice to be able to remotely mute things before you unplug or plug in and to listen to the sound and adjust at the listeners area. Also you can connect to a PC via USB and have the PC save the raw channels for post production mixing, or replay for training. Nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behringer?....YES Behringer I am a professional audio engineer and have toured with top 40 artist for years. I was very concerned when a church member donated an X32 to a church that employees me on the weekends. As a professional Behringer equipment is NEVER allowed in a pro audio system. However in this situation I had no choice since it was donated free of charge to the church. When I opened up the box and installed the mixer, I fully expected at least partial failure if not complete failure. Behringer has never had a great reputation. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. So much so that I have since recommended the console to countless churches and personally installed them in two churches. There is nothing on the market that compares to this product anywhere near this price point. Its somewhat user friendly for a feature rich digital console with so much versatility. With a couple of hours and a YouTube connection most volunteers could be up and running. The sound quality is good. Professional audio engineers love to talk about how good the Mic Pre Amps and D/A converters are in a console and this is an important aspect of any console. Behringer touts that the pre amps are designed by Midas, one of the premier mixing console manufactures in the industry. Midas, being purchased by Behringer in the not so distant past, I suppose they bought the right to use the name. However, I don't think these preamps sound as good as an analog Midas console, the console also doesn't cost 50k+ either. The preamps sound good, and certainly better than the Yamaha or Mackie analog preamps in most church and small club settings. Berhinger still has a long way to go in the customer service department, you pretty much can't reach Behringer employee if you do happen to need help. Yamaha is so much better in this respect, but a similar Yamaha console is 3 times as much and in my opinion doesn't sound as good. The iPad app, although it has improved since the initial release still has some minor issues (I hate the fact there is no PFL/monitor button on the iPad app) Bottom line, the build quality is good, if a bit plasticky. The feature set is second to non. The sound quality is great for anything under 3k....or 10k for that matter. In my professional work, using Berhinger is still not acceptable, BUT IT SHOULD BE. I have used all the major brands, and in most cases I would prefer this console over anything Yamaha has for under 10k. It would be my choice over the PreSonus in most applications. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT FOR THREE TIMES THE PRICE.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware of Behringer Support We purchased the X32 along with the digital snake and personal monitoring system for our ministry because we were impressed by the features and wanted a total digital system. The documentation from Behringer was lacking and had it not been for YouTube videos produced by othets, it's unlikely we would have been able to get the system up and working. One year after purchasing the board, it started to fail. At first, it failed to boot up periodically until it finally failed completely. Upon contacting Behringer, we were told that, because they had no record of us completing an online registration within 90 days of purchase, they would not honor the 3 - year warranty and would not stand behind the product. Our only option was to ship it back to them, pay for shipping and pay for any repairs. We did so and received the unit back after two weeks only to discover that the problem had not been fixed. When asked what they had done, they responded that they had re - seated a card and reloaded the firmware. In other words, they tightened a few screws but failed to fix what is an obvious power problem. We are shipping it back for a second time. Behringer has some great ideas but it's obvious some of their equipment is poorly manufactured and they don't stand behind it if they can find a reason not to.
