The receiver uses a CR2 3V battery that's good for approximately 20,000 triggers. The included cable releases work with a wide variety of Nikon cameras, as well as select Fuji and Kodak cameras. By simply using other (optional) cable releases, you can use the transmitter and receiver with dozens of other camera models.
