Foma Fomapan Classic 100 Reviews

Very nice film

After a twenty year break I returned to shooting film. I was surprised at seeing the price of my old standard film so gave Foma a try and have been very happy with the results. I shoot with Speedotron and calculate bellows factor with the little square and ruler. It’s very accurate and easy and avoids getting thin negatives. I tray develop ten sheets at a time with Ilfosol 3 diluted 1:14. I start with a two minute water bath before the developer and then agitate moving the bottom sheet to the top for 30 seconds out of every minute. I did 20 seconds but wanted more contrast. I keep the film emulsion side down and it eliminates scratching. Stop bath, hardening fix, Permawash, wash and wetting agent and I get very nice negatives. I see no difference between Foma and more expensive films.

I bought this sort of for practice, while getting back into 4x5 after being out 15 years. I'm pretty happy with the results. It's fairly fine grained, depending on your developer. TMAX 100 is still probably slightly better, but Fomapan 100 is close. Feeling a fresh 50 stack of film sheets out of the box is delightful. I take an extra shot with Fomapan any time I shoot color slide film, like Provia.

We recommend to use either the Ilford Rapid Fixer bh# ILRFL (if using ilford developer and stop bath) or the Kodak Professional Kodafix Fixer bh#KODAFIX (if using Kodak developer and stop bath).

question

How can this be considered a paper for C-41 processing?
Asked by: Michael
These are sheets of black and white film negatives, suitable for large format 4x5 technical cameras. This is not paper for c-41 processing.
