The DMI-8 from Neumann is an AES 42 interface for use with Neumann Solution-D and KM-D series digital microphones. The unit converts the AES 42 data format supplied by the microphone into an AES/EBU signal. The 8-channel interface also establishes remote operation over the microphones from a laptop or desktop PC using RCS remote control software.
The interface is used whenever these digital microphones are connected with equipment that does not support the AES 42 standard. Remote operation and control include phantom power and polar pattern switching, etc. The computer is connected to the interface via a USB port and a USB to RS 485 interface converter. Wordclock inputs and outputs are featured, along with a built-in Wordclock generator in cases where no master clock sync is present.
Several DMI units can be cascaded for multiple microphone usage. External commands such as "On Air" (red light) can be controlled via a 9-pin user port.
