Neumann DMI-8 - Microphone Interface for Solution-D/KM-D Digital Microphones
Key Features
  • 8 Channels
  • Converts AES 42 to AES/EBU
  • Provides Remote Control
  • Wordclock I/O
The DMI-8 from Neumann is an AES 42 interface for use with Neumann Solution-D and KM-D series digital microphones. The unit converts the AES 42 data format supplied by the microphone into an AES/EBU signal. The 8-channel interface also establishes remote operation over the microphones from a laptop or desktop PC using RCS remote control software.

Neumann DMI-8 Overview

The DMI-8 from Neumann is an AES 42 interface for use with Neumann Solution-D and KM-D series digital microphones. The unit converts the AES 42 data format supplied by the microphone into an AES/EBU signal. The 8-channel interface also establishes remote operation over the microphones from a laptop or desktop PC using RCS remote control software.

The interface is used whenever these digital microphones are connected with equipment that does not support the AES 42 standard. Remote operation and control include phantom power and polar pattern switching, etc. The computer is connected to the interface via a USB port and a USB to RS 485 interface converter. Wordclock inputs and outputs are featured, along with a built-in Wordclock generator in cases where no master clock sync is present.

Several DMI units can be cascaded for multiple microphone usage. External commands such as "On Air" (red light) can be controlled via a 9-pin user port.

AES 42 to EBU conversion
Powering, remote control and synchronization of the microphones without a sample rate converter (AES42, mode2)
Automatic Wordclock or AES 11 synchronization
Supports all sample rates, from 44.1 to 192kHz
Complete control and storage of the settings via Mac or PC
Capability of cascading up to 128 channels
Level meter and gain setting on the front panel, operable even without a computer
D-sub 25 outputs with Tascam and Yamaha pin assignments
Optical ADAT interface
Open architecture for later connection to other multi-channel interfaces and audio networks, such as EtherSound and MADI
