Sony ECM-TL3 overview

  • 1Description

The ECM-TL3 Earphone-Style Mini Electret Condenser Microphone from Sony is an ultra compact and lightweight microphone that - when combined with a separately available recording device - is ideal for capturing telephone conversations, as well as other discreet recording applications. The mic has an omnidirectional pickup pattern to provide clear audio pickup. It has a gold-plated 3-conductor 3.5mm mono mini plug, allowing you to connect it to the mic jack of a laptop, portable audio recorder, and other devices. The mic uses plug-in power from the mic jack, so no batteries are required.

The mic fits into the ear like an in-ear headphone, and it includes 3 sizes of hybrid silicone eartips so you can find a snug and comfortable fit. The compact size and in-ear fit allow you to place a phone receiver on your ear normally to record a conversation. The OFC cord provides a high-quality signal path and offers plenty of slack.

    Sony ECM-TL3 reviews

ECM-TL3 Earphone-Style Mini Electret Condenser Microphone is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Different Use I got two of these, and a stereo mini male to 2 mono mini female Y cable to make binaural recordings. These are not designed for that but the specs made me think they would work. They do, and very well. The mics are quite sensitive and the fact that they fit in your ears makes for a very realistic binaural 3-D effect. Now I'm going to buy silicone ears to put these in which should give me the same effect, but allow me to monitor the recording. I also bought some cheap lapel mic windscreens and fitted them on the mics. Weird, hun? As always B&H is a pleasure to deal with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I bought this to record telephone conversations and it works very well. Here in Illinois, both parties need to be aware that they are being recorded to be legal. When you call most companies today to discuss a problem the first thing you hear is a recording saying This call may be recorded for training and evaluation? Thank you very much, legalities satisfied. How many times have you called a vendor (cell phone co., utility, etc.) to ask a question and received bad information? They'll tell you anything to get rid of you and when you call back, deny they ever said it. Having a recording of that first conversation avoids hassles and makes for some very entertaining moments as you record them (again) trying to explain away why that first recording just can't be. Would you like me to play it again? This little gem has to be the bargain of the century.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Buy It We've been kind of shocked at the quality of recordings we get from what seems like kind of a low-tech approach. You stick it in your ear like an ear bud, and it picks up both you and the person of the phone perfectly. It's awesome because you can use it with a cell phone, unlike a system you would have to attach to a land line. It's worth noting that we only use these recordings for newspaper interviews made on Olympus voice recorders; we are not re-broadcasting the interviews, nor are we audio professionals. But we have been more than pleased with the results, and are thrilled with how simple and easy to use the mics are. Seriously, there's no need to read the instructions. You plug it in your recorder, stick it in your ear, and start calling. Cheap, easy to use and produces great results; what more could you ask for?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy accessory I sometimes want to record a business negotiation which involves multiple details regarding services being contracted for, details of fees and dicounts available. This handy microphone allows me to expedite the process when I don't need to slow down the conversation taking notes, I just tell the client I am recording , pop the bud in my ear, and turn on the recorder, and the gear does the rest for e.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple To Use, Fantastic Results Shockingly simple to use and produces great results. Works with cell phone or land line. It's incredible that such a cheap and easy solution could work so well. Our entire news staff (community newspaper) uses them with an the Olympus VN-8100PC, and they're all thrilled. I'm no sound engineer, so I can't really attest to it's quality in any kind of pixel-peeping sense. But from a layperson's perspective, recordings are fantastic. I had an inline system for recording interviews in the pre-cellphone days, and I honestly couldn't tell you that there was any difference. The only complaint I have is that it was a little weird at first to have an ear bud in while I was on the phone, and the actual phone conversation seemed a little muffled to me. But I switched to the smaller ear bud cover (it comes with 3), and it was a non-issue. I am completely satisfied with this purchase, thrilled that it was so inexpensive, and recommend it highly.
