OWC Mercury On-The-Go Overview

The OWC 2.5" Mercury On-The-Go Pro External Solid State Drive (240 GB) is an all-round storage solution, and comes with a SATA interface, 1500 G operating shock, and an Oxford FireWire/USB chipset. With immovable parts, it is unaffected by movement or physical contact, and also minimizes noise emitting from the unit.

Featured Durawrite technology optimizes writes to the flash memory, thereby increasing the overall endurance and reliability of the SSD. With Intelligent Block Management and Wear Leveling, the data can be evenly distributed across the entire SSD. In addition, the Intelligent Read Disturb Management protects against errant re-programming of cells during read and program cycles.

The Intelligent Recycling technology performs garbage collection and rewrites the data across the SSD to prevent data corruption. Featured RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) technology works like RAID setup and provides recovery from flash block failures. In addition, the ECC (Error Correction Code) protection detects errors and reconstructs the original data.

Featuring FireWire 400 port, FireWire 800 port, and USB 2.0/1.1 backwards compatible port, the 2.5" Mercury On-The-Go Pro External Solid State Drive offers all-round connectivity. FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 offers data rates up to 400 Mbps, 800 Mbps, and 480 Mbps respectively. In addition, the USB 1.1 offers data rates up to 12 Mbps.

Being bus-powered, the 2.5" Mercury On-The-Go Pro External Solid State Drive can be operated without an AC adaptor. Built-in aluminum heatsink and cooling vents on the top of the case allow it to be operated in a cool environment by moving out the hot air. In addition, the solid state drive can be used with Mac, Windows, and Linux-based systems.
