    Rode DEADCAT VMP reviews

DeadCat VMP Wind Muff for VideoMic Pro is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great, but will work I'm with everyone else that was confused about what to do with the Deadcat when I pulled it out of the package. I just switched to the Rode VideoMic Pro from a Sennheiser MKE 400 w/ a Windmuff and was disappointed by Rode's lack of effort given to the customer's experience. I tried it with the foam and without and then googled how to install the Deadcat. The fit is terrible, but it does help with wind. If they don't want to include instuctions, maybe they should build a dead cat that has the foam insert built into to take away any confusion and allow the user to feel comfortable that it is doing its job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits! Rode must include some instructions, anyway I will do their job. DeadCat must be used over the foam. Thin material part (the one without hair) must face down. Velcro dont cover buttons. Deadcat must cover exactly the foam. Dont try to cover buttons or any plastic part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly fit windmuff for my Rode video mic This Deadcat windmuff perfectly fit my Rode video mic and also complimented my camera rig too. I can almost hear it purr at times lol :-) It has a very good fit and allows me to access all of my Rode Video mic pro's rear controls. Not all aftermarket wind muffs might offer this fit. This is something that I needed when filming outdoors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A wind shield worth having. I live in a very windy area and do mostly outdoor recordings. I found that the Deadcat does a good of reducing wind noise, but it was not as good as I was expecting. After some initial practice I am getting pretty clean recordings now. One thing I think the product should include is an instruction manual as it is not clear when you receive the product if you should install it over the foam pop shield or directly over the mic without the foam. (there is no information on the Rode website either about this) When it is installed over the foam, I get the feeling that the size of the Deadcat is not quite big enough as the fit is not great. Over all though, this is not something that takes away from the functionality of the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design, doesn't cover switches The DeadCat VMP windscreen does cut down wind noise, compared to using only the windscreen that comes with the VideoMic Pro, but I still got lots of wind noise with light winds because this windscreen does not cover the microphone switches on the back of the microphone. When I covered the switches with a fleece glove, the wind noise was eliminated. This product could be greatly improved by simply making it a little longer to cover the switches and eliminate wind noise.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so great at wind cutting On numerous windy occasions I have been in, its as if there is no wind screen on my VideoMic Pro at all. Im not sure what everyone is talking about, saying its cutting out all the wind noise. Mine surely doesn't, and its ruined many shots because all i hear is wind noise. I even installed it correctly, having issues like everyone else because of Rode's lack of instruction. This is a total waste of money and is not worth putting on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prevents Headaches! For the price, this is going to fit well into any small budget filmmaker or event recorders tool set. It saves a lot of time in post-production audio processing and continues to surprise me with how clean the results are. It fits very snugly on the VideoMic Pro (which it is designed for). I picked this one up for $ in a bundle and the first project you shoot outdoors will recoup that investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me So glad I ordered this product. I knew that I would be doing a lot of outdoor shots with my Video Mic Pro and didn't not want to take the chance on the weather. Made such a difference when I compared it to the audio straight out of the camera's mic vs my Rode witch was routed into an H4n. There might be better ones out there but this one worked great for my uses.
