Flycam Redking Stabilizer Overview

From Manufacturer

By balancing the pan, tilt, and roll axes around a central handle, the FLYCAM Redking allows you to achieve smooth-moving cinematic shots as you follow your subject. It works to stabilize and keep the camera horizontally balanced as you walk, run, climb stairs, and otherwise move about. The Redking supports up to 15 lb loads, so in most cases you can mount your camera along with a matte box, mic, or other accessories you may need for the shot.

The base on the bottom features 16 thin weight plates that can be used or removed to find the ideal counterbalance for your camera load, in order to ensure optimal stabilization. The base can also be expanded in width to further help with counterbalance. And the center post is height-adjustable telescopically, from 21 to 32", for vertical counterbalance.

The Redking features a quick release camera mounting platform and comes with a quick release camera plate so you can attach/remove your camera efficiently. The camera plate is Manfrotto 501 compatible, so you can also efficiently move your camera between the stabilizer and most tripods or other camera supports.

Note:
The foam handle design may vary according to availability.

Flycam Redking Stabilizer Reviews

Alone it's iffy, paired w/ a motorized gimbal it's great

This kind of stabilizer is tough to learn and is difficult to operate in many situations. Ultimately if you want zero bobbing up and down with walking shots...you need to further add a motorized gimbal to this kit. So then you have the camera mounted to a motor gimbal and the motor gimbal mounted and balanced onto this unit. Learning how to balance the weight properly takes time and practice, before you've even started to use it. Do yourself a favor and watch several youtube videos on how to balance it, then how to use it. Then practice a lot. The average human's arm can only handle so much weight, so if you're going to use this with a cinema camera, especially one that is rigged out...you will want to add a vest system to this stabilizer so your body weight supports the weight of the whole system rather than just one of your arms. I have a 12 pound rig with a BMPCC 6K G2 and I can't hold onto this stabilizer when all set up for more than 15-30 second shots.

exactly as advertised

Are the makers of Flycam Redking or anyone else going to make a tripod head as an accessory for the flycam to be used interchangeable with a tripod using the same tripod plate? That appears to be a given. It would sure make the Flycam more versatile, provided it was a good tripod head.
Asked by: David
The head of the stabilizer accepts a Manfrotto 501. So any tripod that accepts a 501 could be used to quickly switch a camera between this rig and a tripod.

Is this flycam made only for use with DSLRs or do you guys think I would have success using a glide cam like this Redking with a Canon XA11 video camera? The XA11 already has pretty good stabilization but I want really smooth hand held shots.
Asked by: Zach
This has 7.5 lb load capacity. It should work well with the Canon XA11.

Is it possible the makers of Flycam Redking will be making a tripod head as an accessory so the camera can be used interchangeable with the Flycam and a tripod using the same tripod plate? That seems to be a given?
Asked by: David
The head of this stabilizer accepts a Manfotto 501. So any tripod that also accepts a 501 could be used to quickly switch a camera between the rig and a tripod. I personally use camera with a Tila cage that accepts a tilta dovetail. I mounted a 501 to the bottom of two Tilta dovetail rails. One stays on the rig the other stays on a tripod. This is not necessarily required to make a tripod compatible with this rig. I found that without the added dovetail, I did not have enough front-to-back movement to properly balance my camera.
