Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II Overview

A versatile all-in-one zoom featuring a robust physical design, the LUMIX G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. from Panasonic is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 28-280mm equivalent focal length range. The lens construction incorporates three aspherical elements and a pair of extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions for greater image sharpness and clarity. Multi-coatings have also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity in harsh lighting conditions.

Benefitting the optics, this zoom sports a splash and dust-resistant design to suit working in inclement weather conditions. This lens also features a stepping motor for fast and quiet autofocus performance that benefits both stills and movie shooting. An internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during operation and also quickens focusing speeds. Additionally, POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) benefits this expansive wide-to-tele zoom range by compensating for camera shake for sharper handheld shooting.

Designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, this lens provides a 28-280mm equivalent focal length range to cover wide-angle to telephoto perspectives.
Three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements combine to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations, as well as distortion, throughout the zoom range for increased clarity and sharpness.
Multi-coated elements help to suppress lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy.
POWER O.I.S. compensates for camera shake in order to realize sharper photos and videos when shooting handheld.
Stepping motor provides smooth and near-silent autofocus that pairs with an inner focusing design for quick performance. The AF system is also compatible with LUMIX cameras' high-speed contrast-detection systems for focusing speeds up to 240 fps.
Splash and dust-resistant design benefits working in inclement weather conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.

Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II Reviews

Wonderful compact lens

I use this lens on an Olympus OM-1. I mainly shoot cars, trains and trams, so not having to change lenses when I'm walking around is a big plus. I also appreciate the wide zoom range of the 14-140mm; I seldom need a lens wider or longer than this. Probably 90% of my photos are taken in the f5.6 to f/8 range, so speed isn't an issue for me either. The end-use of my photos is either posting on Flickr or 8.5x11 prints, so the optical quality of the 14-140mm is more than adequate for my needs. I also have the more expensive Olympus 12-100mm f/4 lens but I don't see a meaningful difference in image quality between the two lenses. So more often than not I take the smaller and lighter 14-140mm when I go out shooting. I also use Fuji and Nikon cameras, so I appreciate that Lumix zoom rings turn in the same direction as those lenses.

The Perfect Travel Lens

Anytime you have a very wide zoom range, perfection isn't possible and some compromises have to be made. Considering the 10:1 zoom range of this lens, Panasonic did a great job of keeping the compromises to a minimum. There is a bit of pincushion at the wide end and a very slight barrel at maximum telephoto, but unless you look really hard, you won't notice. If you want to pixel peek, at maximum telephoto the image is a little softer, but beyond that everything else is great. I purchased this lens for trips, where I don't want to carry a lot of gear with me. It offers almost everything I need a lens to do in a small lightweight package. Overall it's not perfect, but it's still a GREAT Lens.

The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens is not a parfocal lens, because it doesn't maintain its focus despite changes in the lens' focal length.

New to the Lumix system. Used with. G7, is the 14-140mm a manual zoom, or is here a power component to changing focal lengths? Manually, the zoom doesn’t feel silky smooth — should it?
Asked by: Diane
This lens is manual zoom, not power.

I'm trying to figure out if this statement in the description "An internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during operation and also quickens focusing speeds." means that the lens itself does not extend when you zoom in? Thank you in advance.
Asked by: Josh
The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens does feature "Internal Focus", but not "Internal zoom". When one is zooming with this 14-140mm lens the length of the lens will almost double when one is fully zoomed to 140mm.

Hello, Joseph! The lens can be used with a digital camera compatible with the lens mount standard for the “Micro Four ThirdsTM System”.
