Atomos Shinobi II Overview

Brighten your on-camera monitoring with the Atomos Shinobi II 5.2" HDMI HDR Monitor. The Shinobi II has been designed for vloggers, photographers, and content creators with numerous feature improvements over the original Shinobi, including a slimmer body design, a 50% brighter display at 1500 cd/m², USB-C camera control for Canon/Panasonic/Sony/Z CAM with status indicators, a new AtomOS 11 interface, USB-C PD power I/O, a locking HDMI and USB-C adapter, updated image tools, and ultra-low battery consumption so the monitor can run all day on only a single battery.
Camera Control
Use the USB-C port to control the latest mirrorless or DSLR cameras from Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and Z CAM's E2 line. There is also a 2.5mm LANC port on the side for additional control compatibility. Compatibility includes:
  • Canon EOS R5, EOS R6, EOS R6 Mark III
  • FUJIFILM GFX100S II, GFX100RF
  • Nikon ZR, Z7 II (Stills mode only)
  • Panasonic GH7, S1R M2, S1 M2, S1 M2ES, S1H
  • Sony ILME-FX2, ILME-FX3A, ILCE-7M5 (a7V)
NOTE: This will expand with future support for cameras from OM System and Sigma with firmware updates.

Touch to Focus
NEW: With AtomOS 11.07.00, you have the ability to set up the camera's focus point directly via the touchscreen. Compatible cameras include:

  • Canon: EOS R6, EOS R6 Mark II, EOS R1, EOS R5, EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R7

  • Sony: a7 IV, a7S III, ZV-E10 II, FX3, FX30, FX2
Shutter Release
NEW: The shutter release function allows photo capture triggering right from the Shinobi II touchscreen. It is useful when you are shooting multiple exposures for HDR bracketing, focus stacking, or other similar workflows.
Camera Status
A camera status indicator allows you to keep an eye on the camera's internal record settings, battery status, and remaining recording time. A red edge display shows when the camera is recording internally, whether triggered by the camera or from the Shinobi II.
AtomOS 11 & Advanced Image Tools
The Shinobi II includes the latest Atomos AtomOS 11, which introduces numerous new tools and features with a more logical layout and easy-to-navigate interface.

Use the Shinobi II interface to adjust your camera lenses' aperture, shutter speed/angle, and ISO with its built-in exposure tools, such as false color (Atomos, ARRI, and EL ZONE colorized exposure modes), waveforms, zebras, or histogram, and achieve perfect exposure on every shot.

Brighter Display
The 5.2" touchscreen display is 50% brighter than the Shinobi, measuring 1500 cd/m² peak brightness, making it easily readable whether you're shooting indoors or in bright sunlight.
Input Signals
The Shinobi II features an HDMI 1.4 input that allows you to monitor signals in various resolutions and frame rates up to DCI/UHD 4K30 and up to 1080p60.
HDR & LUT Support
The HDR HLG and HDR PQ monitoring modes allow you to preview what your camera's Log output might look like in HDR. Users can also upload up to eight custom LUTs to the monitor's built-in storage to preview their shots with their own favorite looks.
Frame Guides
A variety of built-in cinema-style and social media-focused frame guides help compose your shots, including presets for 2.41, 2.35, 1.91, 1.9, 1.85, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5, 2:3, 1:1, 5:4, 4:3, 3:2.
Lightweight Design
The monitor has been designed with a slimmer form factor, weighing only 7.4 oz, and there are added locating holes alongside the 1/4"-20 threads for anti-twist mounting. A single L-series battery plate on the back has been placed in the center to improve balancing and maneuverability. The included HDMI/USB-C locking adapter allows you to use Atomos' new line of locking cables to prevent disconnecting or pulling.
Power Options
There are multiple methods to power the Shinobi II, including an L-series/NP-F style battery, an optional battery eliminator (dummy battery) in combination with a DC barrel to D-Tap cable, or via a USB-C PD charger with 10W input. You can also charge/power your camera via USB-C PD 13W output while using Shinobi II's camera control features.

Atomos Shinobi II Reviews

Defective Atomos Shinobi II / not function right out of the box

I purchased (26may 2026) an Atomos Shinobi II through B&H and received it on May 27. Upon unboxing the monitor and attempting to power it on for the first time, the device would not turn on and the screen remained completely black. I have tried powering it using the supplied USB-C cable, as well as with a fully charged battery, but the monitor shows no signs of life in either case. I am now back in my home country, Santiago, Chile (may29), and I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue. I purchased this monitor expecting a reliable, high-quality product, so discovering that it does not function right out of the box has been extremely disappointing. B&H has informed me that I would need to cover the return shipping costs myself, which means spending even more time and money on a product that should have worked properly from the start. As a customer, this is very frustrating and disappointing. I purchased this monitor with confidence in the Atomos brand, especially considering it comes with a two-year warranty. Unfortunately, the unit did not even work for a single day. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Best,

What a gamechanger

I’ve been a photographer for 50 years, but only recently started doing video, and it was hit or miss as to if my video was in perfect focus or not. Adding the Atomos Shinobi II screen for a bigger viewing area was like night and day. The Atomos screen along with the separate mechanical focus adjuster is an absolute gamechanger. I’ve shot 20 something (mostly 2-3 minute videos) in the last couple of days and EVERYTHING is in perfect focus. I’m loving it.
