The Cokin A Series Oval White, Center-Spot Filter is designed for use with a Cokin A Series Filter Holder. It is a concentric soft-focus filter that is designed to allow the center of an image to be rendered sharp, while the remainder of the frame is obscured. This filter can be applied to help ensure that a viewer's attention is directed to the center of any image taken with it.
Occupying the middle of this filter is a clear, oval-shaped area surrounded by a semi-opaque periphery. Objects or persons photographed while framed within that oval can be focused upon and viewed normally. Image elements placed within the area surrounding the clear oval cannot be as clearly discerned and light falling through it becomes substantially diffused. The oval shape is effective for accommodating subjects that are tall or large relative to the rest of the image.
This filter is made of durable, optical resin (CR39). When used, the Cokin A Series Oval White, Center-Spot Filter's 0.1 density darkens the entire image by 0.3 stops. This reduction in exposure can be compensated for by adjusting the aperture setting of the lens it is placed on, or the shutter speed of the camera being used.
