Sanken COS-11D Overview

The beige COS-11D-HWM Miniature Omnidirectional Headworn Microphone from Sanken features the same high-quality capsule as the COS-11D built into a durable and stable frame that fits around the ears for hands-free talk. It can be used to capture audio for speech, presentation, recording, lecture, and broadcast applications.

This headworn microphone is equipped with a miniature capsule that yields a wide frequency response. The omnidirectional polar pattern and moisture resistant construction measures just 0.15" in diameter and is hardly visible from a distance.

Furthermore, the microphone's capsule position can be changed to the left or to the right side of the headset, and it also overcomes RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), which makes it impervious to noise and artifacts caused by wireless transmitters, PDAs, cell phones and computers. This makes it ideal for vocal capture in professional situations and keeps background noise to a minimum.

Finally, the COS-11D-HWM Miniature Omnidirectional Headworn Microphone is equipped with a LEMO connector for use with compatible wireless transmitters.

Sanken COS-11D Reviews

Discrete with natural sound

I purchased this on recommendation from a singer for a performance. After a relatively quick EQ and set up, we used it for the performance. The sound was very natural, better than my previous encounters with lav mics for sure. Admittedly, I don't use many lavs in my work, but this one seemed particularly good.

The Industry Standard

I found my way to these microphones after years of working with stock lavs that came with my wireless systems, I even upgraded to another pro lav mic that eventually fell apart, but the Sanken has held up for years, it's small, easy to conceal, has great sound and build quality. I have one in black and one in gray so I can tell them apart at a glance.

This microphone requires 48v Phantom Power. You would need to use an active XLR adapter, of which there are many to choose from, or a simple Phantom Power Supply. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577469-REG/PSC_FPSC0001_48_PHantom_Single.html

Is there an option to connect it to a XLR input camcorder? Also will it work with my phone's 3.5mm headphone port?
Asked by: Jared
A Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLR, will allow you to plug this mic into a camera with XLR input, which would be able to provide 48 volt phantom power to the mic. To connect this to a smartphone, you would adapt the end to TRRS with a Rode SC4 3.5mm TRS Female to 3.5mm Right-Angle TRRS Male Adapter Cable for Smartphones, BH #ROSC4. The smartphone will power the mic in this case.

Are these locking 3.5mm / ⅛in connections compatible with the Saramonic uwmic9? The wireless receiver has a bit of a lip around the outlet…
Asked by: J Perry
Saramonic seems like copy of Sony system so most probably will not work because wiring is not the same. It can be expensive gamble.

Does anyone have experience using the Sanken COS-11D with 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector with the Rode VXLR Pro adapter?
Asked by: Tanya
The Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector can run off of 3 to 10 V, and the Rode VXLR Pro provides 4 V, so the two would be compatible.

will this work with an Audio Technica ATW T101 body pack?
Asked by: Joseph
While the Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & Servo-Bias TA5F Connector for Lectrosonics Transmitters is wired with a TA5F connection also found on microphones wired for Audio Technica, it is not recommended for use with transmitters other than Lectrosonics. The definitively compatible option would be BH #SAC11ANATT5W Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & TA5F Connector for Audio-Technica Transmitters.

Does this work and lock with the Tascam DR-10L?
Asked by: Shiggy
The Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Normal Sensitivity & 3.5mm Locking Sennheiser Connector is not advised for use with the Tascam DR-10L, as it requires 3V of plugin power at a minimum and the DR-10L can only provide 2V.
