KanexPro HDEXT50M Overview

The KanexPro HDEXT50M HDMI Extender Kit sends and receives DVI/HDMI signals beyond the ability of a standard HDMI/DVI cable, extending both video and audio up to 165' over a single Cat5/5e cable. You can auto-adjust, buffer, and equalize signals to maintain pixel-perfect resolution up to Full HD 1080p60.

In addition to being EDID compliant, the HDMI Extender over Cat5/5e supports 8-bit per channel (24-bit all-channel). It features digital audio support via HDMI and data rates of up to 1.65 Gbps per channel. The extender enables you to relocate sources, such as a Blu-ray player or satellite box, to a remotely located display. It is easy to install and can be mounted under a desk or on a rack.

I bought two pairs of these to replace ones that had failed due to power fluctuations at our church. These go from our balcony to the front of the sanctuary where there are two 65” flat screen TVs used as monitors to display PowerPoint slides. The pair supporting the right monitor picked up and worked immediately as their predecessor had done. The pair on the left has had stability issues. Some slides cause the monitor to lose connection and then restart, over and over every few seconds until we advance to a new slide. I continue to look for the issue. Is it the 10baseT cable? The HDMI cable? The equalization setting on the receiver? Or is it just a bad set of product? Each week I think I have it licked and then it finds a new slide it doesn’t like. Been at it a month now. Next step is to swap the two receivers and see if the problem stays on the left side or follows the receiver. The instructions are also a little skimpy on what the equalization settings do. There is a little hole where you can press a button using a pin one to six times. Does it reset with the loss of power? Don’t know. Bottom line: they generally work, but seem a bit touchy. And yes, I have a nice new surge suppressor for the power.

Can this transmit HDMI output from a camera to an HDMI input on a monitor for wireless viewing?

The KanexPro HDMI Extender over CAT 5e/6 (165') is a superb system. However it does not work wirelessly. For that, please see the products of Teradek, IDC or Paralink.

All electronics has some sort of latency. How much and if you can see it all depends on the specific product.

Probably no. You would need to work with the approved EXTRON product that works with the product you own. This is something that you may want to connect with Extron about.

can a vga to cat5 converter be used on one end of Cat5 cable, and the KanexPro Cat5 to HDMI on other end of Cat5? thanks for your remarks.

In theory, this should work. I would suggest using a VGA extender and convert the VGA signal on one end to HDMI with a VGA to HDMI converter.

Everyone's correct, you cant. And the ones that you can, bandwidth is much lower (even Gigibit Ethernet) so there is compression at 1080.

Nope, it's a 1-1 connection and must be a direct link using the network cable.
