Formatt Hitech HT85NDMKIT Overview

The Hitech 85mm Neutral Density Master Kit (Soft Edge) contains a wide range of 6 neutral density filters, including both soft-edged graduated and solid.

The solid ND filters included are 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 densities, offering exposure reduction of 1, 2, and 3 stops respectively. An ND filter creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. These filters measure 3.3 x 3.3" / 85 x 85mm and are constructed from specially dyed CR-39 resin.

The ND Grad filters included are 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 densities, offering exposure reduction of 1, 2, and 3 stops respectively. A graduated ND filter has density on half of the filter surface, helping to darken skies and other bright areas of the image. The filter is most dense at the edge and softly tapers to clear by the middle of the filter. The filters measure 3.3 x 4.3" / 85 x 110mm and are constructed from specially dyed CR-39 resin.

Kit includes 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 solid ND filters and 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 soft-edged graduated ND filters.
Solid ND filters darken the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required. These filters allow you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Graduated ND filters provide selective darkening for controlling the exposure of the sky or other bright areas of the image.
Neutral density filters do not affect the overall coloration of the image.
These filters measure 3.3" / 85mm wide and are compatible with Cokin P filter holders.

Formatt Hitech HT85NDMKIT Reviews

Exactly as expected

This kit of filters worked exactly as expected in my Cokin P series filter holder. I was able to use the 3 stop full coverage filter along with a graduated filter to blur a waterfall and not blow out the sky in the process. The area where the filters overlapped did have a bit of magenta cast to it as other reviewers mentioned. I was able to correct somewhat in Lightroom and a more accurate white balance off a neutral card up front would have avoided some of the issue. For the price, and with that caveat, recommended.

Color Cast When Stacking

I found that when stacking the ND and Gradient filters for long exposures (0.5 to 4.0 seconds) there was a magenta color cast. I was able to correct some of the issue through post processing in Lightroom by adjusting the WB and lessening the magenta saturation. The gradient filters alone worked well, but stacking them with the ND proved unsatisfactory. My next attempt will be to first calibrate with a WB lens cap. I recently purchased this filter kit. I failed to read the reviews. Had I done so, I would have found others have had the same similar issues.

question

Will the 85mm filter be good for a 16mm Rokinon lens or will it have vignetting? Thanks!
Asked by: Nina R.
I use the 85mm filter on a Canon 16 mm lens and I have no problem with vignetting. The results of this filter kit are great and you would not be disappointed.
