Lexicon IO 42 Overview

  • 1Description

The I-O 42 from Lexicon is a 4 input, 2 output USB 2.0 desktop recording studio, compatible with any DAW including Pro Tools 9. It includes an interface and all the necessary software needed to start recording. Performance driven analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters ensure pristine 24-bit/96kHz audio to capture every subtle detail of your performance.

The interface features dbx 60V high-voltage, ultra-low noise microphone preamps on all four channels. The preamps run on a high-voltage supply to guarantee stability and provide you with a superior recording across a wide dynamic range.

The I-O 42 can record four tracks at once and includes four combi microphone/line inputs with switchable 48V phantom power, two balanced line outputs, two Hi-Z instrument inputs, two 1/4" high power headphone outputs, coaxial S/PDIF and MIDI I/O. Dedicated knobs and meters offer easy access to input and output levels.

    Lexicon IO 42 Reviews

    I-O 42 - USB 2.0 Desktop Recording Studio is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy! Device stopped working correctly in less than one month. My right output channel is 3-6 db lower than the left, and it crackles. Occasionally it will sound fine, and then it will switch back and forth between being too quiet and sounding like it should. My input channel 3 inputs at full volume even though the channel 3 trim/gain knob is all the way down. Turning the knob up simply distorts the signal further. This occurs whether direct monitoring or recording to Pro Tools. Please do not buy this. There are plenty other devices with similar inputs/outputs and features, in the same price range, don't get stuck with this one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Two Repairs in Two years, but withstood heavy use When it works, it's great. It was subjected to student abuse for 10+ hours each day. But two years in a row (exactly one year apart) I've had to send the device to Lexicon to replace a bad capacitor. One reviewer said there is no repair path; however, I found Lexicon easy to contact and they quickly repaired the device while it was still under warranty. The issue: Engaging phantom power on mic/line 1&2 results in crackling/popping audio from the monitors. Disengage phantom power = audio sounds fine. I'm giving this item a 3-star rating, because it worked well in spite of constant abuse and I appreciate the line inputs being rear-facing. Since it is no longer under warranty, I will be looking for another brand to test out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Forget it! May work for a very short time. No repair path. Customer support sucks. Might have been good device but 0 commitment from manufacturer. Look elsewhere and be happy.
