    Promise Technology R4 reviews

    8TB Pegasus R4 RAID Storage with Thunderbolt (4x 2TB) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY Fast, very robust - very happy. I was unfamiliar with RAID 5, which is what this device comes with standard configuration. You can change it, but I left it RAID 5. I was going to mirror to have data redundancy giving me an effective 4TB, but I was pleased to have 6TB on the 8TB system with RAID 5 giving me redundancy. Set-up took all night, about 10 hours running, to configure the 8TB system RAID 5... but when it was done, it displayed a 6TB drive to my iMac. Writes to the Pegasus R4 are about twice as fast as my internal SATA drive... reads are insanely fast... the read benchmark showed read speeds over 6 times faster than any USB or Firewire 800 drive I have... insane. Definitely get it if you need lots of space, fast reads and redundancy....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good!!! I have several G-Raid drives, and found myself spending 14-18 hours in order to make duplicate drives for off site storage of my files. I started to notice a slow down in performance, and wanted to try a Thunderbolt drive. After doing some research I chose the 8TB Pegasus, and have been extremily happy so far. Running Raid-5 and it is several times faster then my stand alone G-Raid drives. I have plenty of room to gorw, and I'm confident that the system will take good care of me for the next 3-4 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Faster Than a Speeding Bullet Needed RAID for office images for education. Have a DROBO--VERY slow. With new Macbook pro Thunderbolt and the Pegasus, access is AMAZING and almost instantaneous. Setup a breeze. Set for RAID 5 out of the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for Video Source Media Storage The Thunderbolt interface is shockingly fast. The RAID-5 configuration is essential if recording with tapeless devices. Expensive, but less expensive than reshooting a project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ecxellent product I use it for editing of documentary films in full HD. I am on my third unit. I recommend this product because of its cost, performance, price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thunderbolt is right Lightning Fast! I own and operate a branding agency in the midwest. We do a lot of web and video work with my primary desire for the Pegasus unit being the video work. Pro's: The unit is extremely fast with transfer speeds. I mean fast. I backed up roughly 2.5 TB in a matter of hours, something that took all day with USB 3.0. The unit is extremely quite and has no heat accumulation to speak of like some other units I have used. The size is relatively small for what I was anticipating and it fits in my desk configuration nicely. Excellent customer service. Had to call due to a sync issue (see below for details). The Reps did a wonderful job and even quickly used remote access to login to my computer and take care of the issue without me having to lift a finger! Con's: When the unit arrived, it did not have the proper firmware which caused the sync process to take a very long time. After roughly 36 hours (was told 10 hours would complete the process), I finally called Promise Technologies. Their customers service was amazing as mentioned above. After the firmware was updated, the normal 10 hours did it on the sync process. Overall, this is an AWESOME unit, perfect for what I do and for the editing capabilities I need.
