The 1' Sescom IPHONE-LN2MIC-1 TRRS to 25 dB 3.5mm Line Level and 3.5mm Monitor Jack Splitter Cable is designed for digital audio recorders and preamps. It allows you to monitor or record from a single output jack. A -25 dB L Pad Attenuator reduces line level output. The unit has a headphone monitoring tap.

NOTE: A recording software app with a monitoring feature that amplifies and drives the signal to the headphones is required in order to hear the mic signal while recording.

This is the best option for using an iPhone to record or stream audio input

Works as expected. It turns a line-in level signal into a mic level signal allowing the iPhone to recognize and treat the signal as a mic input. An appropriate iPhone to 3.5mm adapter is also required for modern iPhones since they don’t have a 3.5mm jack. The splitter for monitoring is very helpful since most iOS audio apps have no monitoring at all or finicky monitoring at best.
