Mastering?

Mr. Jensen, rather begrudgingly, covers what buttons are for in the first DVD while mentioning why he uses other set ups. The second DVD shows a beginner some basic functions. That's fine in itself, but this should not be anticipated as a Mastering of the camera. The best thing to do is just go out and shoot.

Good coverage

I just bought Sony FS-100 camcorder to use with my Amphibico Genesis housing to shoot underwater. I have been shooting underwater video since 1995, but only with consumer camcorders. Sony FS-100 is a pro camcorder and in order to use all the manual features to get the best images, I have to completely understand what this camcorder brings. This video was-is very helpfull to me (always consulting), since explains clearly those features in an easy way to understand. Things like gain, knee correction, iris, picture profile, etc, are explained, so I can set them up manually to get the best images. But this takes time and a learning curve. But I think they could sell this material in matroska (.mkv) or .avi files, buying and downloading via internet. I live in Brazil, so, I have to pay international shipping for the DVD. I could buy and download it via internet in a click.

Some Great Features with a Few Poor

The FS-100 is a great video camera, but it has a few shortfalls also. I love the quality video it produces at 60fps via the super 35 cmos sensor. I have used it for several weeks (about 1000 hours of filming) and can't imagine how I could ask for a higher quality end product. However, I can say that the 18-200mm lens is a little disappointing (when mounted on a tripod the lens will extend via gravity if the camera is pointed down (it does have a lock, but that makes zooming impossible). I wish the camera had a servo button for zoom, but I am getting used to using the ring on the lens for zoom. The camera is very difficult to hold without a tripod. You almost have to hold it out in front of you and at the same time balance the camera and work the zoom ring at the same time (you will get very tired without a tripod or harness support system). It does not have a ND filter button and thus you will need to buy filters for outside shots. The first thing I will do is buy a better lens than the one that was supplied. All in all I would rate this camera as the perfect DSLR killer.

A Must for New FS100U Owners!

I don't know about Mastering, but the tips here will get you shooting great quickly. Info needs to be updated though; Mentions FS100 not being able to save camera settings to disk - Firmware version 2 enables that feature. Still, great video lesson!

A great introduction to the camera

When I first purchased our EX-1 I bought Vortex Media's video for that platform, and learned everything I needed to know to feel comfortable with the camera and start shooting. The FS100 videos were just as good. Doug provides an overview of how things work and covers everything I needed to know.

Nothing to learn it is just basic review of the camera functions

Not for beginners

The DVD shows a few different settings and is informative but it doesn't explain some of the basic things for newbies. It also does not go into deep detail on various advance settings for the camera. It teaches just enough to get you started with several topics not addressed.
