Canon HF-DC2 overview

  • 1Description

The Canon HF-DC2 High-Power Flash is an additional flash unit for PowerShot cameras that operates wirelessly and increases the effective flash range up to approximately 30 feet. It covers an area equivalent to that of a 24mm lens in 35mm format. The HF-DC2 flash is supplied with a mounting bracket so it can be attached to the camera, but it can also be hand-held or mounted on a tripod or accessory light stand to adjust the lighting angle for professional-quality results. Multiple HF-DC2 units can be synchronized with a single camera for even greater lighting flexibility. This smart high-powered slave flash unit is compact and compatible with almost every PowerShot digital camera (except for the G1 X, SX1 IS, SX40 HS, SX30 IS, SX20 IS and SX10 IS).

    Canon HF-DC2 reviews

    HF-DC2 High-Power Flash is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I have used this to get great shots that otherwise would have been in the dark. It covers a lot of space very well. The one drawback is that you have to power it down,i.e. use one of the lower settings, so that you don't get too much exposure for persons or objects close to you, but still want them to be exposed properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little unit The HF-DC2 is an improvement over the HF-DC1 which I have now owned for several years, about the only difference it that it comes with a diffuser, which the HF-DC1 did not. Also, it may not have the cloth pouch which was standard issue with the HF-DC-1. In all other respects, the two slave flashes appear to be almost similar. I first purchased the HF-DC1 flash as a slave flash about 20 years ago but found out that it makes a small point and shoot look truly professional by attaching it to the camera. When combined with the normal camera flash, it becomes a real powerhouse with a reach of about 30 ft. (10m) It's true purpose of the flash is to be slave unit and it does a very good job of filling dark spaces or wirelessly adding extra light into a room already lit by the main flash. The slave unit has several settings, the bottom ones being Manual Off and Auto. The top settings are the ones which make the biggest difference: Min Mid and Max. In Max, there is a tremendous amount of light emitted, far too much for a small room. The only downside I found on the HF-DC1 is that it sometimes accidentally turned on while in the case and it's happened several times. I now take the precaution of reversing the battery, before storing the flash for long periods. Not only is the CR123 battery not to be found at every corner but it's definitely an inconvenience to find a dead battery when the flash is needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent supplemental flash for Canon Powershot cameras Excellent supplemental flash for my Canon G7 X Mark II camera. While not the most sophisticated flash, it does provide additional lighting in large areas or to extend the flash range of the native built in flash.
