Velbon VS-443D overview

  • 1Description

The Velbon VS-443D Aluminum Tripod with QHD-53D Ball Head features a geared center column that tilts a full 180°, so it can be set at a 90° lateral position or at any other angle along the way. It can also be inverted, making the tripod perfect for macro photography. Its legs offer three angle positions, one of which allows the tripod to be set at a very low 9.45".

The VS-443D tripod features four-section aluminum legs with flip locks. With the center column and leg stages fully extended, the tripod reaches a maximum height of 63.2".

The included QHD-53D ball head features a quick-release mechanism with plate, plus a bubble level. The ball head enables 90° tilt to better accommodate lateral shooting. A carrying case is included to help protect the tripod when it is not in use.

The multi-function arm (which tilts the center column) has a nut-locking grip system that can be easily twisted to lock and release for multi-angle use
The center column can be inverted to shoot close-ups from directly above (copystand function) with the camera positioned beneath the tripod.
Three-position legs allow for low-angle spread
Non-slip rubber feet

    Velbon VS-443D reviews

VS-443D Aluminum Tripod with QHD-53D Ball Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tripod el loco It comes with quick release with the release lock trigger remaining in the cocked position until you snap the quick release shoe into place. Very lightweight & a nifty bag that is easy in & out. This offset tripod is comfortable for my 63' frame while in the bag as well as out. The ball head is a great plus & the offset of the middle tube is simply stellar. I secured a 40lb dumbbell to the tripod positioned the camera to shoot out the 27th floor window & used the offset center leg that the camera was attached to to capture images that gave the viewer a pigeon's eye view looking east into the city. This Velbron tripod does the job.Tom the IMAGESMITH

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent for macro photography I am very pleased with this tripod. It is a unique combination of a boom-type center column that can be positioned at any angle, plus the center column is geared, which makes it even more precise in its movements. The tripod is quite sturdy (considering its low weight), and appears to be well-made, with metal used in most areas, not plastic. The head is nice, for a small ball-head. It is about the same size as a Manfrotto 484, and somewhat better, IMHO. It can be easily removed and replaced with another head if you want (just like with a tripod that is sold as legs-only). My only concern is with the clamps that secure the leg sections. They are plastic, not adjustable, and not quite as robust as I would like (for example, not nearly as sturdy as on Manfrotto tripods). Time will tell if they hold up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Tripod! I really like this tripod. I was looking for a general purpose tripod that would also be more useful for macro work, without spending a ton of money. This fits the bill nicely. I especially like the extension arm that can be move to any position on the ball head and then cranked in and out, which is especially useful for macro work using manual focusing. There are other, more expensive tripods, but I can't justify the price (I'm not a pro). The legs can be adjusted to three angles. It is a little heavy (the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars), but that is not a bad thing unless you have to walk a long way. I also like the removable camera mount - screw it into the camera base and clip on the tripod. All and all, a very versatile and practical device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product!!! I am absolutely pleased with this stable and versatile tripod. It is rock solid and sturdy. I use it primarily as support for my Nikon D7000 when doing close-up photography. (Flowers, coins, small objects) It is very easy it is to position; it can be adjusted to a high as well as very low to the ground and every ware in between. Easy to set up and get everything level. It is a very high quality product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cleverly versatile in every way!!! Needed to upgrade my tripod and found this guy. It has many features I found myself needing while progressing through the challenges of many shoots. This tripod incorporates a 180o center column tilt that can be set at a 90o lateral or any other position. You can tell a photographer came up with this tripod for its intuitive ergonomics!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not disappointed in this tripod This tripod is truly versatile. I would have preferred to have my choice for the ball head,e.g. arcs-swiss. I have only used it around home so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light weight, good quality, but lacking in stability This tripod is unique in that it provides great flexibility in DSLR live view shooting/video shooting due to the ease in handling, quick and smooth geared/twist lock handle. Not recommended for Canon 5D/grip class of cameras with mid telephoto/long macro lens combination, as this posed a challenge for the light weight tripod in the stability department.
