Sirui T-1205X overview

  • 1Description

The Sirui T-1205X 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is a supremely lightweight, compact tripod that extends to a maximum height of 51.4" and folds down to just 13.4" for easy transport. Weighing only 1.8 lb, the T-1205X supports loads up to 22 lb thanks to its relatively thick upper leg sections and forged aluminum chassis construction.

With legs composed of 8x carbon fiber, the T-1205X tripod is suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder. It's an excellent travel model due to its light weight and the fact that its legs fold upward to achieve a folded length of only 13.4". That's a figure that won't necessarily grow if you attach a head – the legs extend past the height of many head models that you'll mount, so the entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and backpacks.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and the T-1205X comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the short center column installed, you can set the legs at their wide angle (80°) and shoot from only 5.1" from the ground.

Forged aluminum results in stronger components than the traditional casting process that's often used for tripod chassis. Forging leads to more compacted metal and enhances the integrity of metal grains so they remain consistent and continuous. This leads to a longer product life and better performance
An anodizing surface treatment, produced by an electrolytic oxidation process to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, is applied to increase corrosion & wear resistance and surface hardness, and to enhance color durability
Silicone twist locks for leg stages
Anti-leg rotation system makes setup faster
Automatic-leg angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience – independently lock legs into place at two different angles
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 5.1"
Leg warmer on one leg facilitates handling in extreme weather conditions and helps protect it
Center column hook allows you to add a ballast for a sturdier setup in windy conditions
Well-designed padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying

    Sirui T-1205X reviews

T-1205X 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact & Light I bought this item specifically for backpacking trips. As advertised it is light and compact, it fit easily into my backpack and added little weight. I did find it is not the most stable when used with the legs opened at their smallest angle from vertical (fyi, my camera and lens weighed approximately 4 lbs). I caught it a few times tipping over on this setting. After that I made sure to spread the legs more or to keep the camera strap in my hand to make certain it didn't tip over. Despite this issue it met all my needs and I'm glad I purchased this item. Good value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from much better than I expected I have several larger tripods(Gitzo) but I needed a smaller and lighter tripod for traveling, hiking and backpacking. Even fully extended it is stable enough for lighter cameras. For macro applications it can be used with legs reversed - column facing down. It benefits from a high quality head. I am using an Arca Swiss P0 which works great on it. For transportation the legs can be reversed to achieve the smallest length and this also works with this tripod head perfectly (see picture).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this tripod! This is my first-ever tripod. As I have been getting more and more into photography I have realized that I need a tripod for some of the shots I want to take. However, I knew that any tripod I purchased needed to be lightweight and versatile. Otherwise, it would just languish in a closet collecting dust. So far, I love this tripod! It's light, sturdy, compact, easy to set up and collapse. I find myself using it even more than I thought I would. I'm trying to think of negatives but I can't really think of any. If I had to do it again, I'd still buy this tripod. It's worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This small tripod carries a big load... Seriously, I'd never heard of Sirui before I started my search for an ultra-compact carbon fiber tripod. Most of my sticks are Gitzo, but this time I needed something smaller that would easily fit in a Porta-Brace camcorder bag. I wasn't expecting much, but when I received the T-1205X, I was impressed. The build quality was excellent. It held my DLSR and camcorder steady and firm. Even with a ball head attached the Sirui would easily fit in my camcorder bag. At the price, this tripod is an incredible bargain. It is now my go-to travel tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light as a feather I use this tripod when I am hiking for landscapes and I love its stability and light weight. The legs are easy to collapse or expand and it comes with a nice carrying strap, which is great for hiking in and out. I expect to use it for everyday as well. The only drawback that I can see is that it takes a little extra push to expand the center column which does not open quite as freely as the legs. I LOVE this tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleasantly surprised! I was skeptical as the price is low so I took my 5DII and my 24-70L and attached it to the system with the recommended G10 head. I was shocked. No flex, rock solid and sooooo light! It is perfect for my trip backpacking through Iceland, France, Spain and Italia. Cons, none that I can see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy This Great Travel Tripod I went to the Superstore in NYC to buy a tripod while on a vacation in NYC. I spent almost an hour working with a sales person to get just the right combo of function, size, weight and price. Could I have purchased a taller tripod? Yes, but I wouldn't have a great travel tripod that folds up nicely in my camera bag. Could I have purchased a tripod that could handle more weight? Yes, but I would have had to spend almost double the money. The tripod is well built. The twist locks work much better than a snapping clamp lock in my opinion. They feel like they are grabbing much tighter and I don't have to worry about them slipping. The tripod is sturdy with a Nikon D300, gimbal head, and a 300mm 2.8 lens (we tested this in the store). It held the weight just fine. It comes with a case, which is nice and it also has grips on two of the legs for cold weather comfort. That has already come in handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and compact - quick to setup I purchased this tripod because I wanted a lightweight, compact tripod I could take with me pretty much anywhere, but particularly on hikes for landscape photography. I also wanted something with a decent load weight and good quality so it would last a long time as I upgrade equipment over the years (I currently have a Canon Rebel T4i). This tripod has filled this need very well. I know with a larger, heavier tripod, I would leave it behind. Adding a ball head adds weight but the I purchased the G-10 and it fits almost totally within the legs when folded so does not add to the folded length. I also found the twisting legs very quick and easy to setup and back fold-down. It also comes with a good quality carrying case. Only negative is it can be a tad unstable when full extended was the last section of the legs are quite thin. There is a hook to add extra weight (e.g. hang your backpack) to help with that if needed.
