Sirui K-20X Overview

  • 1Description

The Sirui K-20x Ball Head is an extremely sturdy head with control knobs for pan, tilt, and tension, plus an Arca-style clamp for the included quick-release plate. The pan, tilt, and quick-release knobs are all separate, while the tension knob is integrated into the ball-locking (tilt) knob. The head tilts 90° for portrait orientation.

The interior ball locking of the K-20x head has a sphere tolerance of 0.01mm, and it's equipped with an orientation-memory locking dial. This helps yield a high load capacity of 55 lb. The quick-release clamp features a secondary release button that prevents any inadvertent disengagement of the camera/plate from the clamp, thereby adding to the head's overall security & stability. The Arca-style platform conforms to standard sizes, so you can use compatible plates from other manufacturers.

The three control knobs allow a photographer to exercise extremely fine control over the orientation of the camera, whether it's a DSLR, 35mm, medium-format camera, or even a camcorder. Pan, for instance, can be adjusted while the tilt stays locked, enabling precise movement that's measurable – there are degree markers at the panning base for panoramic photography.

The K-20x is CNC-machined from an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and anodized with an oxidation treatment that ensures a durable, high-quality finish.

Arca-style quick-release clamp with secondary safety lock
Two bubble levels (horizontal and vertical) on the quick-release platform ensure that your framing hews to the horizon in either portrait or landscape orientation
The friction-control knob, integrated into the ball-locking knob, allows the operator to adjust the resistance of the ball's movement
Quick-release plate is aluminum alloy with a rubberized surface
Stainless steel camera screw

    Sirui K-20X Reviews

K-20x Ball Head is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 133.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Ball Head! Was very impressed with how well engineered and manufactured this ball head is. Everything is incredibly smooth, and despite it being relatively small (considering that it's rated for 44 lbs), it feels incredibly solid. The Arca Swiss plate is great and should be compatible with L-brackets etc. Pros: -Smooth Panning and micro-adjustment -Smooth and pleasant finish-Looks nice! - Very portable (fine-adjustment cleverly built into main locking knob instead of being a separate knob). Cons: -None really, except main locking knob was over-lubricated upon arrival, but I wiped it off and it wasn't an issue (still is just as silky smooth functioning). Couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Ball Head, But Delicate Got the K-20x about a year ago and enjoyed using it -- right up to when it broke. Let me be clear -- the fault was mine. I was loading my car, foolishly had my collapsed tripod leaning against the bumper when it slipped and hit the parking lot pavement. I expected some dings & scrapes, but the K-20x literally came apart. The mounting clamp broke into several pieces, one of the tension screw knobs snapped apart at the metal shaft.... And this was from a fall of maybe 2 ft. (Then I got zero customer support from Sirui when I emailed them about repair possibilities.) Anyway, I'm buying another K-20x as a replacement because it's a decent ball head for the price. But you better treat it gently!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Head of class Four, not five stars. If it wears gracefully and works as well down the road as it does now, then it will be five stars. Looking good, but call me conservative. This is a very smooth head with grip sufficient to hold a 70-200 2.8 with a D600 attached (my heaviest load, but balanced). It will also hold the D600 with an attached 70-300 at full extension (my most unbalanced load). The fit and finish seem quite fine. The packaging is first rate. Someone back at the factory cares, hooray! The provided plate is reasonable for starters or non-gripped bodies with relatively light lenses, but a camera-dedicated plate or bracket is where the action is. I will have need of another head in short order and I see no reason not to repeat the order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mighty Ball Head I use this for a Nikon D3200 with lenses ranging between 10mm to longest one I own at 300mm. This ball head is definitely overkill for my current arsenal, but I wanted something that would be future proof for my needs and absolutely rigid. I love all the features on this Ballhead (bubbles, safety lock on mount, tension control, separate pan knob), the look, the smoothness, and the performance reliability of it. It has not yet failed me to grip my gear solidly and to work very easily with my motions. In addition it is quite light weight for its load capacity. I am thoroughly satisfied with this Ballhead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and fully equipped The Sirui K-20x ball head is very well made. It is light, but sturdy, and it is the perfect companion for the Sirui T-1205x tripod. It has control knobs for pan (great to follow a moving object), tilt (great for portrait), and tension. There is a bubble level in both the horizontal and vertical axes. The base plate allows a quick release of the camera from the tripod and there is a safety button that prevents the plate from sliding off the platform. With a maximum loading capacity of 25 lb, it is good for even a big SLR with a big lens. I would recommend that head to anyone without hesitating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very dissapointed Just recieved this ball head which was meant to be taken to my phototrip to Norway. I was very dissapointed to discover that the head still moves after tighten it very well. I don't know if the problem only in my copy or not, but this is very dissapointing and I sent immediatly email to B&H and still didn't got any answer from them. I hoped at least to get a good service and resolution for my problem, but it seems that this time I threw my money away. Consider well before you buy this ball head and before you buy check with B&H if they will help you in case you encounter any problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best one I have found Smooth if you set it up correctly. Held my D750 with a 200 - 500 on it at a 45 degree angle for 2 days without moving at all. I like how you can setup the rotation so it is never totally loose. I set it up for my 200 to 500 and I can set it so that if I take my hands off my camera it will not flop around, yes it will move but never to the point that you loose control of it. At the same time I could still pan with it easily in any direction at the same setting. The minimum tension setting is wonderful. I paid more for the first one I got and its a piece of junk compared to this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice and simple After many years of using Manfrotto Head I made the switch to Arca Swiss style plate. I went with the Sirui from all the reviews and price. Out of the box I found that it moves a lot smother than the Manfrotto. The tension adjustment was a little tough getting used to. But once I had it set it was nice not having a 3rd knob sticking out. It hold the weight of my camera with a 70-200 very well. Theirs one downside I am finding. I tend to walk around with my camera mounted to my tripod and carry it over my shoulder. You really have to tighten the knob to keep the ball from moving. After a few months I am happy with the head.
