Sirui K-20X Overview

The Sirui K-20x Ball Head is an extremely sturdy head with control knobs for pan, tilt, and tension, plus an Arca-type clamp for the included quick release plate. The pan, tilt, and quick release knobs are all separate, while the tension knob is integrated into the ball-locking (tilt) knob. The head tilts 90° for portrait orientation.

The interior ball locking of the K-20x head has a sphere tolerance of 0.01mm, and it's equipped with an orientation-memory locking dial. This helps yield a high load capacity of 55 lb. The quick release clamp features a secondary release button that prevents any inadvertent disengagement of the camera/plate from the clamp, thereby adding to the head's overall security & stability. The Arca-type platform conforms to standard sizes, so you can use compatible plates from other manufacturers.

The three control knobs allow a photographer to exercise extremely fine control over the orientation of the camera, whether it's a DSLR, 35mm, medium-format camera, or even a camcorder. Pan, for instance, can be adjusted while the tilt stays locked, enabling precise movement that's measurable – there are degree markers at the panning base for panoramic photography.

The K-20x is CNC-machined from an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and anodized with an oxidation treatment that ensures a durable, high-quality finish.

Arca-type quick release clamp with secondary safety lock
Two bubble levels (horizontal and vertical) on the quick-release platform ensure that your framing hews to the horizon in either portrait or landscape orientation
The friction-control knob, integrated into the ball-locking knob, allows the operator to adjust the resistance of the ball's movement
Quick release plate is aluminum alloy with a rubberized surface
Stainless steel camera screw

Ballhead seizes up

For the first couple of months this worked nicely - the ballhead was smooth, it was lightweight enough for my needs, and everything worked well. Unfortunately now after 6+ the ballhead has seized up and requires quite a bit of effort to move. The knob controlling the ballhead barely even turns - I can only move it between about 8-11, which is absurd. I haven't used it in any freezing weather, so that can't be the issue. Also, the screw on the plate does not stay tight no matter what I do. I have an L-bracket on my camera so this normally isn't an issue, but I use the plate on the foot of my 200-500m telephoto and the plate comes loose after only a few minutes. This is SUCH a pain, since then I have to remove the camera from the tripod to tighten it again, or otherwise risk it coming loose from the camera entirely. I wanted to like this product but will be replacing it soon as it's unfortunately just unreliable and has turned in to a pain to use.

appears to be the perfect solution

I purchased this head for use on my monopod. I wanted a sturdy arca style plate for the security it offered, and also for its interchangeability with my tripod heads. The Sirui K-20x has proven to be the perfect fit.

I really like Sirui products. I have several small ball heads (10 series), one of which lives on a Platypod, another on a table tripod. The products are well built, feel solid, are silky smooth to operate and are reasonably priced. I bought this K-20x ball head to replace a Real Right Stuff BH-40 ball head with the lever clamp which I found was the most irritating ball head I've ever owned. Am using this K-20x on either a Sirui ET-1204 tripod or a Feisol CT-3442 tripod. It holds my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III body and the Zuiko 40-150mm in a death grip, with no slipping. The knobs are also easy to turn and they hold. I'm delighted with it!

Works but

I do not recommend this product for women. In order to get it to stay in place you have to crank down on extremely small hard to grasp knobs. Then getting them lose is even worse. I have fairly strong hands and it is hard for me to get these knobs to work because they are so small and in hard to get to places. Sometimes manufacturers need to allow women on their teams.

So far, a heavy duty ball head that represents good value. All works as advertised and am pleased with the construction and operation.

I called to speak to a representative because there are just too many choices!. I thought I needed a new tripod but he explained I just needed a better head (for the tripod not for my neck). He was right! This better sturdier head works great. So much better than the one that came with the tripod. I have an oben travel tripod.

Perfect

Much lighter than my old head. Feels well made. Supports my heavy Spotting Scope or heavy Camera with 600mm lens.

I'm looking for a new ball head and was wondering if this one would be sturdy enough to support a Nikon D610 with a Tamron 150-600mm or would the K-30x be a better choice?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, that head will support the weight. But when used with that large a len,s attach the quick release to the lenss tripod collar.
