Sirui K-30X overview

  • 1Description

The Sirui K-30x Ball Head is an extremely sturdy head with control knobs for pan, tilt, and tension, plus an Arca-style clamp for the included quick-release plate. The pan, tilt, and quick-release knobs are all separate, while the tension knob is integrated into the ball-locking (tilt) knob. The head tilts 90° for portrait orientation, and the quick-release plate has a rubberized surface that prevents camera twist when it's tilted 90°.

The interior ball locking of the K-30x head has a sphere tolerance of 0.01mm, and it's equipped with an orientation-memory locking dial. This helps yield a high load capacity of 66 lb. The quick-release clamp features a secondary release button that prevents any inadvertent disengagement of the camera/plate from the clamp, thereby adding to the head's overall security & stability. The Arca-style platform conforms to standard sizes, so you can use compatible plates from other manufacturers.

The three control knobs allow a photographer to exercise extremely fine control over the orientation of the camera, whether it's a DSLR, 35mm, medium-format camera, or even a camcorder. Pan, for instance, can be adjusted while the tilt stays locked, enabling precise movement that's measurable – there are degree markers at the panning base for panoramic photography.

The K-30x is CNC-machined from an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and anodized with an oxidation treatment that ensures a durable, high-quality finish.

Arca-style quick-release clamp with secondary safety lock
Two bubble levels (horizontal and vertical) on the quick-release platform ensure that your framing hews to the horizon in either portrait or landscape orientation
The friction-control knob, integrated into the ball-locking knob, allows the operator to adjust the resistance of the ball's movement
Quick-release plate is aluminum alloy with a rubberized surface
Stainless steel camera screw

    Sirui K-30X reviews

K-30x Ball Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from K-30x Ball Head by Sirui The ball head is primarily used in the field for photographing landscapes and wildlife and serves additional duty as a support for a large spotting scope. The ball head reeks of quality and has two separate bubble levels - one on the side and one on the top. The panning movement is superb. The ball head even comes with a base plate which is an optional extra in many of the very expensive brands. The ball head uses 'arca swiss' clamp and is precision made, fastening with a quick turn of the knob, the camera feels quite secure on it. I purchased additional quick release plates to attach to the telephoto lens and to the spotting scopes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!!! After trying and returning two Manfrotto hydrostatic ballheads, each costing twice as much as this one, I tried this ball head by Sirui. It was love at first sight. It is so well made and even the packaging so thoughtful. However, aesthetics are secondary to performance, but performance is fantastic! No sag with a heavy setup. I love the plates and the quick release mechanism. I bought another plate that has the tabs to keep the camera from twisting, which is a really nice option. I didn't have a problem with twisting with the included plate, but got the one with tabs for peace of mind. So pleased with this ball head I bought a second one for my travel tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great except for tension adjustment! I have just started using the K-30x ballhead, and this is my first ballhead that I have used, so I am not sure how it compares to others. I have a Nikon D5100 with kit lens and 55-300mm lens. The ballhead does not budge when tightened down securely. Maybe I am not doing it correctly, but the tension adjustment does not seem to be consistent. I adjust it the way I want it, and after a while it seems to change, without me changing it. The panning adjustment is also rather stiff, and takes a fair amount of effort to get it to move. Otherwise it seems like a great piece and I am really happy with it. It is so much better than the old pan style head that I was using before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is unbelievable value for the money I had RRS most expensive tripod head which had excellent workmanship but a clumsy design. I switched over to the Arca Swiss which I liked more, but this tripod head for 1/3 of the price tag beats any of the two I owned without question. The quality of workmanship is superb, the friction control similar to the Arca Swiss but even better and the friction movement as well as the pan head movement is buttery smooth.Simply put it, this is the best ballhead I have ever had. Superb design and very high quality of workmanship. You have to use one to believe it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very sturdy Easy to understand and use knobs with a wonderful precision feel Very solid performance was super obvious when focusing in live view Very solid feel The bottom knob to lock the rotation works very well and is not as obtrusive as some of the others Insane max load support, but it feels like it can really handle the load fits my Manfrotto tripod 055xprob perfectly i wanted something that would last and sturday, and this ball haead will not dispoint at the fraction of the cost......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I've used this ball head for a couple weeks now and it is a nice upgrade from the Manfrotto head I have used for many years. Fit and finish is good, the tension control works well and solidly holds my 80D and 400mm f/5.6 without creep. I can fine tune the tension to allow for movement when tracking wildlife but hold strady when I let go. The only problem I have with it is the width of the quick release plate supplied is slightly wider than the Kirk plate I ordered for my camera, so there is some extra loosening and tightening between the two plates. I will probably get a Kirk plate for my lens and eliminate this problem. My only regret is not getting one sooner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Money well spent! I purchased this ballhead to pair with my gitzo tripod. So far I'm quite enjoying the solid feel of this head. I mostly do macro photography and wanted a head that was going to be stable and would allow me to fine tune the focus without having the lens drop when I release the focus ring on the lens. So far it's been marvellous. I dropped one star in my rating because the set up didn't go as indicated in the manual and I still haven't fully figured out the tension knob. I followed the instructions fully but the ball locks and won't unlock. A video to show set up would be an added perk. Still, all in all I think it's well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is all the ballhead you need I ordered the K-30X after reading many comments on various forums and websites and it's big brother the K-40 did very well in DP Revue's test against heads costing two and three times what the Sirui does. The fit and finish is first rate and it is absolutely rock solid. I couldn't get it to sag even with my Kowa 88 mm Spotting scope on it. The scope is a pound heavier than a Nikkor 80-400 zoom lens. I was so impressed I ordered a K-20X for my travel tripod. You cant beat this head till you get up to three times the money and maybe not then. I am confident I wont need to replace this head for many years.
