How well does this stand handle any vibrations? is there sufficient padding on the base?
The Atlas Sound DS-7E Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand has a standard round cast iron base that may protect the mic from very minor vibrations, but it does not have sufficient padding to isolate the microphone. As an option for a similar stand that offers veru good isolation is the Auray TT-ISO Isolating Desktop Microphone Stand (B&H # AUTTISO).

Will this work with the Shure SM7B in the lowest position? Does the height adjust grip get in the way of the XLR connection?
Yes, the Atlas Sound DS-7E Desk Stand can be used with the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone. The mic's XLR connector will not be blocked by the height adjustment grip on the stand.
