Blackmagic Design CONVMH/DUTYBHS overview

  • 1Description

The Mini Converter Heavy Duty - HDMI to SDI from Blackmagic Design is an extremely rugged device that accepts an HDMI signal converts it to a 3G/HD/SD-SDI output (a second loop-through SDI output is also provided). To the SDI output signal you can choose to embed the HDMI audio or the signals from the balanced AES/EBU or L/R analog audio inputs. Use this device to convert video from sources such as prosumer camcorders, or add SDI outputs to computers with HDMI or DVI outputs (DVI input via converter – not included) so you can integrate it into your SDI-based video system.

Converters in the Mini Converter Heavy Duty range are machined from a solid block of aircraft-grade aluminum and are generally designed to resist damage from rough use, whether outdoors or just in the course of live production. This super-strong Heavy Duty converter can withstand being run over by a truck and keep working. Its BNC and audio connections are protected by outcroppings of the aluminum body, unlike those on the standard Mini Converter line.

The converter features scratch-resistant laser-etched labeling, non-slip rubber feet, and a dust-resistant rubber boot that covers the mini configuration switches from dust and dirt.

Sophisticated I/O
This Mini Converter features auto SD/HD switching, auto-switching AES/EBU and balanced analog audio on standard 1/4" jack connections, and advanced 3 Gb/s SDI technology. It supports 24-bit analog and digital audio, HDMI audio, and embedding the input audio to the SDI output signal
High-Quality SDI
Mini Converters are built to the highest quality standards with low SDI jitter. You get the longest SDI cable lengths combined with ultra-low-noise analog video and audio for a true broadcast-quality solution. You also get broadcast technology such as re-clocking and 3 Gb/s SDI. A loop-through SDI output is also provided for connecting to other devices
USB Upgrades
Upgrades can be loaded via the USB connection for future video format compatibility. Use Blackmagic's Converter Utility to make adjustments right from your laptop
Versatile Format Support
Mini Converters instantly switch between all SD and HD video formats whenever the video input changes. A huge range of standards are supported, including NTSC, PAL, 1080i59.94, 1080i50, 1080PsF/23.98, 720p59.94, and 720p50
Easy-to-Change Settings
With the Mini Converter's mini switches, it's as simple as using a pen to change the settings
International Power Supply
A high-quality, low-noise universal power supply is included with international socket adapters for all countries. To stop power accidentally being disconnected, a cable tie point is included to lock down the power connection tight and secure

Mini Converter Heavy Duty - HDMI to SDI is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little scan converter! we use this product to convert the HDMI out of our laptops to SDI so they can be switched into a multi cam recording. Its great because it will down-convert the signal to SD-SDI and the computer program interface is very self explanatory. I wish it had some preset buttons on it, so we didn't have to hook it to our engineering computer every time we wanted to make a change, and it would be great if it could be USB powered to reduce the amount of power outlets needed but all in all you can't beat it for the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good For ATEM users We use these products to convert HDMI video to SDI for our ATEM switcher. Does its job well when your source video is to spec. The only problem we really had was with a Mac, which outputs to 60hz. Our switcher would not pick up this signal and we had to adapt the video to 59.94. This wasn't ideal to say the least, since we needed software to do so. That not withstanding, the product does its job and is very sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built and performs well I am using this to convert the output of a wireless HDMI transmitter to SDI for production use with steadicam. It works flawlessly, as well as being very well built. I have used the older mini-converter and, I personally, think the extra 40 dollars is very much worth the extra build quality. The only downside to that is it is a bit heavier than the older model. but that is minor in the grand scheme of things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built, works like a charm Highly reccommend this model over the standard one, because it's encased in a more heavy dutier construction. You can easily attach velcro to one side or both, and mount this thing anywhere. A MUST for canon DSLR users, especially the 7d, to convert your signal to SDI for use with a Steadicam let's say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built. Great features Very well built box. I especially like the ability to insert audio to allow a different audio source than is being carried on the HDMI input.
