Acratech 1165 Overview

The Acratech Panoramic Head is designed to facilitate precise panoramic photography with DSLR cameras and lenses as long as 600mm f/4.0. With laser-etched degree markers on both the pan and tilt dimensions, the Panoramic Head is suitable for multi-row stitched imagery, facilitating the broadest views possible. The head has separate controls for pan and tilt, and there's also fully adjustable tension control.

Sturdy construction is a hallmark of the Panoramic Head – it's based on Acratech's Long Lens Head so heavy lenses will be well served. The head is composed of CNC-machined aluminum, which is anodized for a black-satin finish. Hardware is made of long-lasting stainless steel, and all knobs are secured so that they can't vibrate loose and fall off.

Use your existing Arca-type camera plate – the quick release clamp features a classic knob clamp and is compatible with plates from several manufacturers (plate sold separately). The clamp is not removable but is indexable, and it locks in at 90° increments.

Expensive but worth it. I use it exclusively for every lens I have. Get a leveling base and a carbon fiber tripod and you'll have a great setup for life!

This head is built like a tank yet it’s lightweight and functions with precision. It’s not inexpensive but to me it’s worth every penny. To me it’s a game changer for panoramic work and landscape work.

Does anyone know how to loosen the index knob ...

Does anyone know how to loosen the index knob with the included Allen wrench so I can change the orientation of the top clamp?
Asked by: James
There is a wheel underneath the quick release clamp. If it is too tight to loosen by hand, you can use the supplied allen wrench to insert into one of the holes. Remember, right is tight and left is loose.

Can anyone give suggestion as to how to loosen the index knob, it won't budge at the moment?
Asked by: James
There is a flat round turn wheel below the quick release clamp. It has holes on each lobe. Turn to the left to loosen. If it is too tight, insert the supplied allen wrench for added leverage if needed. As you loosen, the clamp can be lifted and rotated to re-position.

What is the difference between this 1165 vs 1160 ? It looks different though.
Asked by: Hiromu
The 1165 has degree marking on the tilt axis and the 1160 has none. The 1165 also has a pointer ring on the pan which the 1160 has none. They both can function as a Long Lens Head but the additional parts on the 1165 allow the photographer to shoot multi row panoramas. They both have the index-able clamp which allows you to orient the clamp for a lens or a camera body.
