Acratech Panoramic Head with Arca-Type Quick Release (Classic Knob)

The Acratech Panoramic Head is designed to facilitate precise panoramic photography with DSLR cameras and lenses as long as 600mm f/4.0. With laser-etched degree markers on both the pan and tilt dimensions, the Panoramic Head is suitable for multi-row stitched imagery, facilitating the broadest views possible. The head has separate controls for pan and tilt, and there's also fully adjustable tension control.

Sturdy construction is a hallmark of the Panoramic Head – it's based on Acratech's Long Lens Head so heavy lenses will be well served. The head is composed of CNC-machined aluminum, which is anodized for a black-satin finish. Hardware is made of long-lasting stainless steel, and all knobs are secured so that they can't vibrate loose and fall off.

Use your existing Arca-type camera plate – the quick release clamp features a classic knob clamp and is compatible with plates from several manufacturers (plate sold separately). The clamp is not removable but is indexable, and it locks in at 90° increments.

Acratech Leveling Base

The Acratech Leveling Base is a leveling base that fits between the tripod (or stand) and the tripod head, and can be used with any tripod that features a 3/8" head screw. This device allows for the photo or video head to be quickly leveled, independently from the tripod.

At its center is an oilless and greaseless ball that will not attract or hold dirt and debris. It allows 10° movement in any direction, and features smooth knob action for easy and secure positioning.

Precision bull's eye bubble level provides accurate positioning
Ball will not shift when tightened
Satin black anodized finish
All knobs are captive so they cannot fall off accidentally
Low profile design-just 1.77" (45mm) tall not including the 3/8"-16 threaded screw

Well crafted useful head

I have just started using the Acratech pano head and leveling base. It is well designed and built. The ability to quickly level the head combined with the clean separation of vertical and horizontal movement allow for careful and quick composition and alignment. I felt that the angle indicators were difficult to see/use so I painted the top edge using a silver Sharpie. I’ve suggested that Acratech so this since it seems to make the indicators dramatically more useful.

How have I lived without it!

How have au ever lived without it. The combination of leveller and pano head totally replaces my previous ball head . Levelling is so simple and quick with perfect results every time. Handled my Sony A7r4 with 100-400 lens with no problem.

Will there be a parallax issue or an problem finding the nodal point using a 100-400mm lens?
Asked by: steve
The Acratech Panoramic Head with Leveling Base Kit could create parallax issues depending if there is an object close to the camera when you are stitching the image to a panorama. You may want to buy a nodal rail that would allow you to place the camera further back, with the center of the lens over the tripod's center. In that case there won't be any parallax.

The mounting plate seems a considerable distance above the pivot point. Does this cause parallax problems with a multi level panorama with say a 70-200 lens?
Asked by: Lyman
No ones you find the nodal point you should not have any issue with panoramic photography with 70-200mm

Is this head compatible with the Wimberly Sidekick?
Asked by: Brian
The Wimberley Arca Sidekick Ball to Gimbal Head Adapter is designed for use with ball heads, not panoramic tilt heads such as the Acratech Panoramic Head with Leveling Base Kit. While the Wimberley Sidekick would connect to the Acratech Panoramic Head, you may not get full range of motion using the panoramic head.
