Olympus LH-48 reviews

LH-48 Lens Hood for M.ZUIKO Digital ED 12mm f/2 Lens (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice hood! I am used to lens hoods that screw into the filter threads, so I was somewhat apprehensive about purchasing this type of hood for my 12mm lens. I was happy to see how easy it was to smoothly slide this hood onto the lens, right over my B&W UV filter. The hood can be rotated to any position and stays firmly in place by finger tightening a screw. The screw simply compresses the mounting sleeve, applying pressure evenly around the circumference of the lens barrel. Nice design. High quality materials and workmanship. I highly recommend this hood as a good complement to the wonderful Oly Zuiko Digital ED 12mm lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well designed hood at a premium price. This is a quality product that is very well designed. When I bought this I did so with some trepidation because I wasn't sure if it was a good value. After using it, I'm happy I bought it. It is made of metal, the inside is blackened with a kind of velveteen the should block reflections, it can be stored in reverse on the lens, and the little screw that you use to keep the hood on the lens puts tension on a metal band so the end of the screw isn't marring your expensive lens. The only thing bad I can say about it is that I didn't come with the lens as a package deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made, but pricey The hood is purpose built for the Zuiko 12mm f/2.0 lens and is well made. It slides over the barrel of the lens and is friction attached by means of a screw that loosens or constricts a variable diameter ring around the lens. There is a witness mark on the hood that corresponds with similar mark on the lens to insure things are properly aligned. You slip the hood over the lens, set the depth and alignment, then tighten the screw. The hood appears to be effective in protecting the front element of the lens and in limiting flare. I find it attractive and feel it is well made. These features come at a price, however, and I would not rate it as a particularly good value. Only time will tell how well the design holds up. I worry about the durability of the attachment screw.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unfunctional Design. I ordered this hood as I am a firm believer in both using hoods/shades and B+W or better filters. At all times. Saves on post time and protects the real front element from damage. So I get the B&H provided #BWUVCDP46 MFR #651065555 B+W filter in silver (how cool!) to match the cute little retro finished lens. And proceed to find that this OEM shade will just barely allow itself to be almost forced onto the filter. No way is this adequate or professional. Plus it can easily be placed on the lens without any orientation method. Hence, easily knocking out the opposing corners. This is not appropriate and so I've requested a RMA from B&H. I gave it One Star because it is adequate for blocking cross lighting and it's nicely finished. Big deal. All very sad and a total waste of time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent although expensive A very well built lens hood that should be included with the DZ 12mm f2.0. I'm giving only 4 stars because of the price. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150 mm f4.0-5.6 R Lens for Micro 4/3 costs $249.00 and is an excellent lens, I just don't understand why a simple piece of metal and plastic can cost more than a third of this lens

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great accessory but pricey This is a nice accessory for the 12mm lens. It fits tightly on the lens front and uses a set screw with a tighting ring to clamp it to the lens barrel. It functions well, and looks great on my camera. HOWEVER, it is very pricey for a lens shade. Olympus should reqally include this with the lens!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poorly Executed Design! MAYBE A HALF STAR?! I love the lens and purchased my usual B+W UV MCR filter and was delighted to see that it came in a silver finish to match (though I'm sure they made it for a Leica lens)! So while it's a total travesty by not being included with such a nice high end lens I ordered this Hood as well. Great thought! Until I realized it was a primitive friction/squeeze mount!!! Who would think that's state of the art??? NO ONE! But, wait, that's not the real problem. It's too tight a fit and will soon destroy the lens or the filter (one or the other) finish. And then simply fail regardless as no one will bother to use it! Of just fall off... The EM-5 is my latest favorite toy camera but this design oversight is absurd. So I sent it back and B & H handled the return impeccably!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Fine but Expensive Nothing new to add about Oly and their lens shades. This beauty is well made and does its job just fine. I almost always have a shade attached to my lenses for the physical safety of the front element as much as for flair protection. I knew the price, and bought this shade anyway. Exactly what Olympus was hoping for.
