This Follow Focus / Riser /15mm Rod Kit from SHAPE combines into one bundle all the components needed for you to start pulling focus on your DSLR or camcorder. Included are the Shape follow focus, a pair of 15mm rods, and a camera riser. The follow focus features both friction and geared lens interfaces, a removable marking disk, and a clamp-on 15mm rod base. A single lever locks the half-moon shaped base onto the rods, eliminating the need to slide other accessories off in order to mount the follow focus. Another lever enables you to adjust and lock the follow focus horizontally to fit different lens diameters. The versatile SHAPE follow focus can be used on either side of the lens.

SHAPE ROD2 Overview

This Follow Focus / Riser /15mm Rod Kit from SHAPE combines into one bundle all the components needed for you to start pulling focus on your DSLR or camcorder. Included are the Shape follow focus, a pair of 15mm rods, and a camera riser. The follow focus features both friction and geared lens interfaces, a removable marking disk, and a clamp-on 15mm rod base. A single lever locks the half-moon shaped base onto the rods, eliminating the need to slide other accessories off in order to mount the follow focus. Another lever enables you to adjust and lock the follow focus horizontally to fit different lens diameters. The versatile SHAPE follow focus can be used on either side of the lens.

The riser/rod system serves the dual purposes of elevating the camera 2" to better accommodate the follow focus and other accessories, and mounting the included pair of 8" 15mm rods. The rod bracket may be raised up to 1-3/8" using a 4mm hex key (not included). A 4" camera-mounting slot enables you to adjust your camera's position on the riser. Multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes in the riser base allow for mounting to various tripod plates and other supports.

Attaches onto the rods via a patented clamp system.
The focus mechanism moves horizontally to adjust to the lens.
The focus mechanism can be used on the left or right side of the lens.
A friction wheel and a gear wheel are included to interchange as the focus disk.
The focus disk flips to the rear of the focus mechanism to accommodate longer lenses.
A thermoplastic mark disk can be written on with non-permanent markers and is interchangeable.
An included marker attaches beside the mark disk and slides and tightens into positions along the disk.

Friction is fast and easy!

When you're running and gunning, shooting a documentary for example changing lenses often you'll quickly need to ditch your follow focus since you won't have time to swap the gear rings on the lenses. The friction option allows you swap lenses quickly still using the follow focus, giving you much smoother focus pulls. I like this follow focus a lot, its the only one I found that gives you both options. Also the gear seems to spin the opposite way of the other setups I've used, and I like this one better! If something moves away you turn the ring away, moving toward, twist back toward you, it works.My only issue is that the craftsmanship seems a little cheap for the price. No issues yet, nothing broke, but it doesn't quite have the overall quality feel I was hoping for.

I bought this for use with my Panasonic AG HMC40. Trying to find an affordable follow focus for this (and other similar cameras) is an exercise in frustration. Any other comparable system cost twice as much. I was extremely pleased when I received the item. Because of the lens on the HMC40 using a system with split gears is impossible which is why I choose Shape with it's friction wheel. It includes a gear as well which will allow flexibility as I upgrade my cameras. I did go through a bit of a panic when I realized the gear box was going to interfere with the matte box on the HMC40. However, the system is so well designed I quickly realized that the gear box could be removed and flipped thus eliminating the problem. The system is solid and fully adjustable to fit nearly any camera package you might want to use. It's really stepped my AG HMC40 up into the realm of Professional Camera Packages. Everything should be this well designed.

Will this work with L-Series Canon lenses?

Hello Warren,Thank you for your question! Indeed, you can use our Follow Focus Clic with 15mm Rod Kit unit with L-series Canon lenses. Since most of those lenses have a rubber focus ring, the rubber wheel on the follow focus is a good combination. If you need more precise control, you can switch to the 0.8 pitch gear wheel included with the follow focus. You'll have to add the plastic lens gear kit on the lenses for this particular purpose.We hope this helps and we thank you for your interest in our products.The SHAPE team
